Things are really looking up for us now :)
  • Good Luck with your studies, I was a midwife {prior to ill health} and it is the best job in the whole world - the course is a tough one:eek: but if you have been through all this you will be fine. Wishing you all the very best.

OOOOOOOOO I am SOOOOOOOOOO Jealous. But really pleased for you - its a hard course to get on to - Good Luck

I am currently a Student Nurse, in my 2nd yr (on my way to doing the conversion course to Midwifery after I qualify in Jan 2012 Hopefully). My Bursary is taken as "income" as that and child benefit/tax is my only income (I went BR in March this year), so I guess yours will be too. If anyone has/knows different I would be really grateful to hear about it - as I have just has my ED letter and have to fill in the SOA for the OR - and if my bursary isn't going to be included in the numbers I need to know!

Again - congrats on the place and good luck!

are subject to a payment order? i also have my husbands wages as an income but we are not suject to an order as the budget is tight. i guess i wont know untill i call them, but i honestly thought they couldnt have it as i will need books, shoes, extra perol costs for placements, parking fees, etc etc etc:(

Yes My Hubby is working and he gets tax credits. We are both BR, and we don't pay anything at the moment (I say at the moment as you never know if they have moved any goal posts regarding allowances?)

Our budget is tight too - bursaries aren't very much and we have 2 children (one of which is going up to senior school in 11 days ) but I was a student when we went bankrupt so my Bursary was counted - its an income and paid to you to live off afterall, so if I was you I would expect yours to be taken into consideration. But if you can get a definative answer to if not being allowed to be included that would be very useful to know! It is tax and NI exempt (which causes all sorts of questions and raised eyebrows)

To be honest Missy I didn't ask for allowance to be made for me regarding placements - I just put what it costs me for a normal week at uni, petrol and parking you know. I didn't ask for anything special otherwise, but then I had already started uni and just looked at it as I would if I was working. Costs to go up when I am on placement as you can be sent anywhere, you are on shift and as a Student they don't let us park in the staff car park at our hospitals so we have to pay full whack! Which can be over a £5.00 a day easy! What Uni will you be attending?

I do know (as I keep a spreadsheet of all our spending and bills) that costs such as petrol and food have gone up significantly since I submitted my SOA in March! I wonder what the "Allowances" are now???
