Hello all. Is anyone else being bombarded via emails & flyers for this new MBNA card? It seems that since most of my defaults are now beginning to drop off my credit file, I'm now being targeted even though the defaulted accounts still have some years to run. I finally paid MBNA off completely about 3 months ago so I suppose this could be a factor.

I think that the only advantage in having this card would be for any 0% Balance Transfers, and only then if you can give MBNA a Cast Iron guarantee that you circumstances will not change, even through circumstances over which you have absolutely no control, throughout the payment period.
Mine went straight into the bin.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Like yourself, I'd never touch them again. It's just annoying that after all the c..p that I've had off them in the past, when I'm finally free of them they try & entrap me to a new card.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Oh dear I have one of these cards, just transferred to it and worried now! However if needs be i could pay it off as it really is more a stoozing card, and my overdraft is also 0%. What experiences had other people had that were bad with them?

MBNA are the devil in credit card's clothing!!! I should have been suspicious 12 years ago when they wrote to Mr Piglet and myself offering us gold cards (we were full time students at the time and doing part time bar work but not really "earning" in the real sense of the word...:o). Fortunately, we were sensible back then and refused their offer (we actually wrote back to them saying "no thanks and please take us off your database because we are not interested"...blimey, we were really good at age 21!:T:rotfl:).
Their reply...?
We received 2 x MBNA Gold cards through the post with a limit of...
...wait for it...
£25,000:eek:  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Luckily we ignored them for several years, but when things got tough about 6 years ago, we mistakenly used the cardsand started making minimum payments..."we were OK - not really in debt...we made our minimum payments every month by direct debit, so we were in control of our finances...!" (I think we all know the story from here...!!!).
However, in fairness, MBNA was actually what helped us reach our lightbulb moment. Once we began to open our monthly statements (the sofa cushions were becoming uncomfortably close to the ceiling, so we couldn't keep stuffing them under there unopened forever...!:p), we realised that the monthly minimum payments didn't cover the monthly interest charged, so every month our debt increased:mad: . This p*ssed us off enough to motivate us to overpay and clear the card (and tell them what they could do with it once it was clear..."no, we would not like a new card with a bigger limit/an "improve your life" loan, thank you very much - we would like to never deal with you again!!!":T).
So, I guess in one way, I should say thanks to MBNAfor jolting me into reality (once that was cleared and closed, we developed the "paying it off" habit and moved onto the next card, then the next...), but it still makes me seethe that they are allowed to do this to people (we never actually wanted the cards in the first place
- although we do take responsibility for putting stuff on them eventually, if they had respected our original request not to have the cards in the first place, who knows what might have happened...or not happened...?!
), and I still feel the need to rant to anybody who'll listen about what sc*m they are...
*Piglet climbs off her soapbox - thanking anybody who bothered to read this far down her thread!!*

P.S. Lil'H, if you are on a good % rate and it is better than what you were paying, then please feel free to take them for all you can get- just be careful...with us they upped the % rates without any warning (just noticed an increase on the monthly statements, no letters!). At least you are in a position to get out if need be - its the people who get trapped in their web with no escape route who I worry for...

Thanks piglet, I'm gonna set up a direct debit for minimum, and heavily overpay via online banking each month. Will keep a really close watch on the statements to make sure they don't stop the 0%, it's meant to be for 12 months. Going to ring them tommorrow anyway as I haven't had a statement yet, though got card 2 weeks ago.

I believe you won't receive your first statement until 1 month after your first transaction, unless anyone knows otherwise.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

Are you getting these in the post? If so, it may just be a general mailing that they are sending out to x amount of people. Getting a letter from them doesn't guarantee acceptence.0
