Meaningful first dance song??

Options
Hiya, me and my fiance are getting married in October but we are still stuck for a first dance song.

As backup we have chosen Always and Forever (Luther Vandross). But we really want a song with meaningful lyrics, as we have been through a lots of really bad times (healthwise) and have really been there for each other throughout.

Yet we are really struggling to think of something to suit.

Can anyone help us with any ideas of songs that might suit, please?!

We had "endless love"...but if you type "first dance songs" into a search engine it brings up loads of popular and not so well known songs to choose from...you may get inspired... good luck

We had Van Morrison's "Have I told you lately that I love you" which is a nice slow one that you don't need to do much actual dancing to! Another one which came out afterwards which might have suited us (not sure whether it would suit your struggles) might have been Katie Melua's "Closest Thing to Crazy"

  • The top three first dance songs that always, always got played when I worked in a hotel that did a lot of weddings were You're Still The One by Shania Twain (which might work for your situation), Amazed by Lonestar and Rule The World by Take That.

I really like I Don't Know Much by Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt, I think that would be a nice first dance song.

I'd like to have either Everything by Michael Buble, the Smash Mouth version of I'm A Believer or the Beatles version of Til There Was You.

Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")
Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")

    We're having Amazed.

Although the other day I was listening to my iPod and 'Iris' by the GooGoo Dolls came on and I was listening to the lyrics and thought that it could actually be a good song. Need to ask my OH what he thinks, and also ask the band if they can do that one as I've already told them it's Amazed...

    When the night has come
    And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
    Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
    I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah

    [Guitar]

Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

We had Thankyou for loving me by Bon jovi
    here are the lyrics !!

It's hard for me to say the things
    I want to say sometimes
There's no one here but you and me
And that broken old street light

    Lock the doors
    We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words when I

    Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes when I couldn't see for
Parting my lips when I couldn't breathe
    Thank you for loving me
    Thank you for loving me

    I never knew I had a dream
    Until that dream was you
When I look into your eyes
    The sky's a different blue

    Cross my heart
    I wear no disguise
If I tried, you'd make believe
    That you believed my lies

    Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes when I couldn't see
For parting my lips when I couldn't breathe
    Thank you for loving me

You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me, yeah

    Lock the doors
    Leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words when I

    Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes oh, when I couldn't see
You parted my lips when I couldn't breathe
    Thank you for loving me

    When I couldn't fly
    Oh, you gave me wings
You parted my lips when I couldn't breathe
    Thank you for loving me

    Thank you for loving me
    Thank you for loving me
    Oh for loving me
