Got put off crabs when being forced to eat crab sticks when young.

I still shudder at the idea :yuck:

i agree....also if you go to Thailand, weep at the fantastic quality and selection of their seafood

This country is the pits for quality of food and its awful chain restaurants (ie. beefeater, tgi's, harvester, etc)

If you want fresh lobster - well crayfish actually - then you should be hunting down and catching he North American Signal crayfish (AS crayfish) Pacifastacus leniusculus which is not native to the British Isles but is invading our waterways and killing our own crayfish and other aquatic species that are defenseless against its onslaught.

If anyone saw Gordon Ramsey on the F-Word you will have seen him doing this along with his children and a friend that regularly collected 20kgs of them FOR FREE in a single nights fishing.
This "fishing" basically consisted of laying out something similar to a lobster pot with a dead smelly fish as bait in it.
Go back the following day and "voilá" - a pot full of free and very fresh (alive & kicking) food.
All you need to do this is the knowledge of where and when to catch them (whilst widespread they aren't in every river & stream and water temperature has a bearing on their eating & breeding habits so it's not a winter "fishing" activity if you want to trap them) AND a very specific licence, WHICH IS FREE, from the Environment Agency so that you can do this legally.
