Can I freeze beancurd

Bought a load of it from the chinese supermarket as I can't have much bread based stuff for lunches on my restricted diet so am going to have beancurd in stir fry sauces with rice a lot (well, millions of chinese can't be wrong!!!). Anyone tried to freeze it before?
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

  • Beancurd is the same thing as tofu. I've frozen uncooked tofu before and it's fine - it takes on a firmer, chewier texture that many people prefer. I'm not sure about deep-fried beancurd (which yours could be?) - but I can't see why there would be a problem.

I freeze it raw and cooked. Should be fine, just defrost it properly before eating it!!x
  • When you freeze raw tofu it takes on a crumbly texture which I love. It then seems to take up marinades better and can be crumbled and used in fried rice instead of egg.

I haven't frozen cooked tofu, but I generally prefer it cooked from frozen because of the reasons above. (Remember to give it a good squeeze to drain it a bit first though.)

I've frozen blocks of Tofu uncooked, and also the Cauldron foods marinated ones.
Both are fine when cooked if they are left overnight to defrost first

  • if you got the uncooked tofu, its nice, simply steamed, with some chopped spring onions and ginger, and a dash of soya sauce on.

if it is the already deep fried ones, then stiry fry would be nice.
