Well actually I do. Well a little more if truth be told. I was putting away £550 each month for my holiday I have just returned from. I also have surplus amounts in my 9 accounts. The halifax credit card(clarity card another top MSE tip) is the amount we overspent whilst on holiday.

Why not up a bit on your repayments? and as I said get rid of those little debts?

    It is up to you?

I know we had to put holidays on hold for a few years and it is a bit depressing, but I'm off on holidays in 3 weeks and can't wait as it will be debt free and saved for...

(don't want to sound condecending as obv it is your money and your budget and you need to do what is right for you and your family)

  • Andy,
I think you need a reality check. While our SOA may be similar I think our attitude is not. If you really want to get rid of the debt then you need to look after your money. Yes, you have over £5000 going into the account every month but you have run up your debt and now you need to take responsibility. That £5000 is not yours to spend. It is owed to lots of other people.

You do not need to do Value food - if you are buying 'finest' or 'extra special' then just go down to Branded. If you buy branded then go down to 'own brand'. You only need to do this once to see that it makes no difference at all on a lot of products. On the ones you do notice the difference on, swicth back up to the brand you like.
Still go out for meals but get one free with a voucher.

You need to be a lot savvier with your money by the sounds of things.

Definitely, definitely do not get another loan. Just set yourself, say, £200 a month to spend on clothes/going out and then pay the rest of your money off your debt.

LOL,we have been on value foods for about 10months. I am the voucher man. Going sailing on tuesday for £18 should have been £56. Got daughters haircut for £10 should have been £51. Quidco pay so far to date is £535. All of this is thanks to MSE. I know to the penny where everything goes and my debt has reduced by 32% since OCT, or by nearly £20k. The majority of debt was due to life style change. My reasons for posting is Am I doing to much. Could I ease up alittle on the £2030 I pay each month to debt. Yesterday I made a topic asking where I should spend the extra £550 I saved each month for my hols, in terms of debt, today I want to pay less to debt. I am going mad and need direction.

  • Morning that's what everyone goes through, so what I did was I increased a loan payment and then I could not drop it back down so that extra cash is paying finances and it's going by direct debit and I can't change it so I'm not disputing with myself. Start paying your mil back? Or see if you can increase any of your loan payments? Thus reducing the term if contract? Pay a credit card off close it and be done. Next month enjoy the 550 month after pay a debt. It's simple do you want the debt gone quicker or are you happy with te pace? Doesn't matter what your paying them now eventually it will be cleared and you will have alot of excess available. Maybe listen to the t harv veker? Use the jar system with your 550 10% play 10% FFA 10% ltss 10% education 5% giving. So that's 125 in the jars with 10% and 50 in the giving jar. Your play accomt can only roll for 3 months max then you have to spen it. Your FFA is financial freedom it should neve be emptied but invested but always keep money in the jar the ltss is long term saving so it might be a certain loan or credit card or an holiday that you save for. Education is well you would have to listen to the man himself. And giving is charities birtday friends in need... Some worth watching or Reading. The millionaire mindset. Other options include overpay debt or save cash or reduce the amount you will throw extra at debt split it equal and enjoy some of it. Good luck c

  • Just wanted to say "well done" on what you have achieved so far and encourage you to keep going. I had the same wobble earlier this month after a year of paying every penny towards my debt. The amount owing has reduced dramatically, I know when it will be cleared by, BUT......I was sick and tired of living on nothing every month.
What I did was turn the computer off, stop reading how fantastically motivated everyone else was and let my head clear abit. I realised that if I didn't keep going it was going to still be hanging over me in years and I didn't want that. I figure it's a like taking a plaster off, quick and painful is really easier in the long run. The other thing I try to remember is that the pain off doing it this way means it is much less likely that I will run up debts again once these are cleared!
Final tip that has really helped me is every time I make a large payment to a card/loan I figure out what I "spent" that money on in the first place and go and use it. That way it feels less like a debt repayment and more like a purchase, sounds silly but it's helping me.
Good luck and keep going, it will be worth it in the end.

There you go! bet that feels better!!

I just think it might be easier just to get rid of all these little ones.

I know it seems a huge grind - but for 2 years then you will be FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - even sooner if you pay little extra bits off when you can (wish I had that option!!)

Good Luck Andy and keep posting
