With the mail forwarding services, isnt there still the problem that the card that you order the products on must have a US billing address?

It varies from company to company eg Gymboree will take a UK card, Children's Place won't. Worth remembering that children's clothes , which are already much cheaper over there are not subject to VAT :-)
Nothing in it, nothing in it but a ribbon round it .....

Don't forget a 110v step down converter!!! Bang!!!!!

Check the individual specs on the equipment. It's more usual these days to have a switch-mode power supply in equipment and the spec would mention power requirements of say 90-264VAC.

    Caveat emptor tho....
  • I ordered an olympus mp3 (ebay)from the US it arrived in 8 days. However the following week I recieved the bill from the courier for £20 import duties and associated fees.
It was still considerably cheaper than buying in the UK.
Dont buy the Olypmus M:robe 500i Great machine but software doesnt work.
You need to download an unofficial hacked version to get the mp3 player to sync with ur pc properly

  • Probably around 75-80% of the time on goods over £100. Probably about 20-30% on goods cheaper than this. PLEASE NOTE: When customs charge vat, it is on the TOTAL price inclusive of postage charges!!!!

Thanks for that- really useful information.
  • Rent a USA postal address from Parcel2go (£10per year), have your US retailer ship your item to your US address (check with them first to establish that they will!)...once they receive it, Parcel2go will then forward your item on to the UK.

Sorry if I'm being dim but, are you saying once youve paid £10 for a pseudo US address Parcel2go will ship all your orders to the UK for free?
    Thanks.

EDIT: Doh! Sorry forget the dim question above! I just checked it out on parcel2go's web site and now understand that you still have to pay standard shipping charges depending on weight. Of course you do!

Parcel-2-Go have stopped accepting any new applications for the Mail Forwarding service, is anyone aware of any others that provide the same service.
