School School Shoes Causing Blisters - What are my rights?

Options
My son has been back at school for a week now so new school shoes have been worn for 5 days. He has huge blisters on the back of each heel and a smaller one on the outside of his toe.

The shoes were fitted and bought in an independent childrens shoe shop and cost £53.

I am going to go back and complain today - what are my rights? I would ideally like my money back.

From speaking to Mums in the playground today I have been told that the shop owner is unlikely to be helpful.

TIA

Cant help with your rights but if the shoes are leather which i hope they are for £53 then rubbing vasaline into the insides should help soften them up, i was told this by a cobbler and it has worked for any of my shoes that rubbed :-)

  • If they were fitted then I would say you have every right to expect a new pair or your money back. That's what Clark's would do.

Afraid I've always had blisters from nearly every new shoes purchased from early teens onwards. Yes they were always fitted from proper well know shoe shops too. I recommend micropre to skin whilst wearing them in as that way its preventative in rubbing the tape not skin. Sounds daft but it works. Have never thought of taking shoes back if blisters as always been the situation.
  • I've always had blisters with new shoes too, always thought it was down to the shape of my feet! I found some heel pads that you stick onto the back of the shoes helped, I think they kept the heel away from the back of the shoe. It could also be worth wearing thicker socks.

Personally I would not take them back, he has gone a long way towards wearing them in now!

I don't know what your rights are, but I've taken shoes back to Clarks when they've caused problems (tongue kept slipping and they were extremely uncomfortable for DS to wear), they exchanged for a completely different style.
If he got blisters from properly fitted shoes, I would take them back, especially if they cost that much!

Don't know if you have any rights as they were properly fitted and no complaints in the shop...did your little guy wear them in? Hour a day for a couple of days? If you bought them first thing his feet may have been cold and with wearing them all day have expanded a bit...
I would certainly ring the shop and see what they have to say...they may be sympathetic worth a try.
If no joy try the vaseline in the shoes and if all else fails bash the back of the shoes (heels) against a solid floor to soften the leather or take a hammer to them. Get some blister gel plasters for the heels and hopefully his feet will heal very soon.

Thanks for all the usefull and not so useful comments and information.

Shop was very sympathetic and apologetic and refitted him a half size smaller. He should have been in a 2.5 but had been incorrectly fitted as a size 3. The new syle was £7 cheaper too. Result!

  • i had similar with my daughter who is 8. i bought her shoes from clarks and after a month or so she was is quite a bit of pain from the shoes. i took her to have her feet measured and her feet were same size at time (i didnt have shoes with me though) so i thought she may have bad feet from something else. she started wearing sandals to school instead for the end of term and her feet recovered. i put her back in shoes for last week and low and behold was in pain again. i went to clarks and told them this and they suggested possible fault with sheos...eventually some 2 months after this begain- 10 weeks after buying shoes approx- i took her and the shoes to clarks. they measured her feet which had grown a half size but they never really looked at the shoes (which seemed to be falling apart insifde and lumpy!) they offered a half price pair of new shoes. i accepted.

I would suggest if the shoes fit badly- after being fitted by the shoe shop- then you can argue they are not fit for purpose.
i never had my receipt by the way

if YOU fitted them i dont think you have much luck unless the shoes are faulty.
