Yep, like having kids there's never a perfect time to take time out to study. You seem determined to succeed which will stand you in good stead. As you say you'll feel fulfilled and will have much better life chances for yourself and your children. Also there are opportunities for childcare and work and a bursary!

My mum is a regular poster on these forums (whereas I'm much more slack..!), and she has told me I should come and update my original thread... so here I am!
I separated from my partner a year and a half ago. Part of it was the financial stress and problems, and part was just general relationship stuff!
I am in my final year of University and qualify as a Midwife in 7 months.
My twins boys also start school in September!
When I was with my ex, we ended up entering into an IVA agreement. It kind-of worked for us when we were together and we managed to get on top of things. Obviously it doesn't work so well when you're separated.
He continued paying it for a while, but we are now in the process of terminating the IVA Agreement.
My portion of the debts were only around £2,000 so I have opted to approach my four creditors myself (using letter templates found on here).
As a result, I've paid off one of them (Next Directory) and have made Full and Final Offers to 2 others so far (Capital One and Barclaycard -waiting to hear back from both of them).
So I personally now only have around £1,500 debt to my name, but unfortunately the IVA Agreement that I was a part of will show on my Credit Record for the full 5 years (at least!).
I now do not have any credit cards, any form of accounts (other than one bank account) and not even an overdraft. So I'm managing it all really well.
Just wanted to update and say I'm doing it (Uni!), I've sorted most of the original problems out (including the main one - my ex, haha!) and I'm well on the way to being completely sorted.
Thank you all0 -
Thanks for updating us
I hope your creditors agree to the full & finals.

Well done memmaj on getting sorted. Hopefully your budgetting and letters to the creditors will help you get rid of the last of your debts. Keep at it!

i am memmaj's mum and thought i would add my bit about how brilliantly she is doing. its been a hell of a lot more complicated than she has said. not least that it was clear that the big spender was her ex. of teh debts that went into the IVA, hers was as she has said, his was 27k:eek: and that didnt include the mortgage or the loans that were secured against his flat.
and then, when she kicked him out and was going through papers that were his, she found bills for the new place they were living, that he hadnt paid for about a year. there were even letters threatening court action. mostly for utilities and stuff, that she knew nothing about, and she has paid all of those as well. she is also managing to keep her car on the road, and takes her boys out for days out all the time.
she has risen above everything, and from being the queen of the ready meal in the microwave (or worse, the takeaway), she has taught herself to cook, and feeds us all wonderful meals, all cooked from scratch. and she has given up smoking.
