Putting on weight "properly"?

I suffered a very sudden bereavement, and inadvertently went on the Unofficial Grief Crash Diet.
Anyhow, a very good friend has over the month repeatedly driven home the point the desirability of maintaining a decent body weight.
I've discovered nuts, particularly peanuts, as being a good easy source of calories, and have taken to munching on nuts on top of my fruit/veg/stuff daily intake, and it's doing the trick.
I've now got lesser bony hips. But my artist friend says that I've lost weight round the face. Does weight just randomly go where it wants, and do I just wait for my face to take its turn in gaining weight, or is there something I should do? (this sounds like such a silly question, but I thought I'd ask just in case!)

When you gain weight suddenly, its similar to losing it suddenly, it can look as if it comes from one place. But give it a few weeks- at worse a few months and the weight will redistribute more evenly. Its just that your hormones can't quite catch up with themselves and this is what happens.
Exercise, drinking plenty of (plain) water and getting a decent amount of sleep each night can help, you basically want to help your body "work" properly and trying to be healthy gives it less other work to do and it will hopefully concentrate on the redistribution of any weight gain more exclusively.

you dont have to eat high calorie foods to put on weight necessarily, as your body and mind start to go back to normal, your appetite will as well. In the meantime, you can do things like have full fat milk instead of skimmed/semi-skimmed, full fat yougurts etc.
Good luck, and I also am sorry to hear of your loss.
