A question about proof of "actively seeking work" for JSA

  • When my OH was claiming JSA, he was getting really frustrated with his 'advisor' not helping him in the least with job searches etc. He asked her if she could help him and she said, I quote, 'It's not my job to help you find work'. I was doing a job search on their machines (I'm employed but always liked to see if something interesting is on there) and I nearly choked. If the Job Centre's advisors aren't there to help people find work, what are they there for?

As for job searches, said advisor used to glance at it without actually reading it, so hubby printed out the same sheet for 2 sign on dates just to see if she did notice but alas, she just signed it and went on her merry way. OH was so glad when he found work. She was a total nightmare. He signed on a few years previous for a bit and his advisor then was brilliant. She totally went out of her way to help people....we still see her occasionally in town and she always asks how the kids are etc :)
;);) Better to say nothing and look a fool than to speak and remove all doubt :D:D

I'm constantly surprised by the experiences related on here by jobseekers of the job centre. Ours have been more than helpful and seem to be the easiest going around!

Interestingly the Advisors never look at the form and ask me to read it out so they can log the details on their system under the right tabs. Only takes a few minutes and seems to keep them happy.
