Interview tomorrow - *Gulp*

Some of you may remember I was on a course to start my own business. I 'passed' the course, and am now running a business and claiming tax credits to top up my earnings. The thing is, although I 'passed' the course I didn't manage to get any funding, so we're (husband and I) running only a portion of what my idea was and slowly saving for the rest (as in siphoning some earnings off towards living, and saving some of the rest for growth). It would take an age to get enough money to do the rest of my idea.

The course I was on refered me to a scholarship in my area that offers a grant at the end of it. I sent of a letter and a short version of the business plan, and then didn't hear anything for months. Got a phone call yesterday asking me to come for an interview 9AM tomorrow morning.

Ack! 9AM! I'm never my best on a morning!

I'm really panicked now - normally I'm cool about interviews but this one means so much! If I got on this course, the grant at the end would be a huge help - it would cover everything we *need* and a couple of things we only *want* too - and its a grant, so we wouldn't need to pay it back :)

Plus the extra we could earn would be a massive help towards paying stuff back.

*takes a deep breath* I'm not normally so worried about interviews - how do you stay calm once you get like this?

I'm studying what I wrote in the application, and checking the new plan and notes I've written since then - theres a couple of ideas that I had in that plan that got scrapped because they weren't working, and a few things that have been added too. I'm taking notes like crazy, hoping to wow them with my planning skills, and how flexible / adaptable we've been in trying to get this off the ground. :)

OK...I'm calm now, honest. Just had to post to say how excited I am!

You will do great, don't worry. Just stay calm and positive and smile :D - I always like people that maintain eye contact and smile when I am interviewing.

Good luck and let us know how it goes! :j

  • The fact that you have scrapped some ideas that weren't working and have added new ones with the experience you have had so far should count for a lot - it shows you are flexible and savvy, and are really on the ball with your business ideas. I think you'll do great!

Mega big good luck for tomorrow, but I am sure you will impress the hell out of them all on your own...

    :D
  • Thanks for the encouragement! This course means so much to us both - unfortunately some issue with age / length of residency (husband hasn't been registered at my address long enough) means I'm the only one allowed to apply but we can both attend if I get on. Its probably that extra pressure messing with my head - if I stuff up, we both lose out.

If you hear screams from Newcastle tomorrow, you know why :)

Replying to myself, but I got accepted :) I am so, so happy! There was one place left, and apparently they picked me because they found my enthusiasm and determinedness refreshing....phew :)

    Course starts next month - I can't wait :)

    Thanks for the encouragement all.
