Lots of people with English degrees (and others) wouldn't have GCSE Maths these days, it hasn't been an entry requirement for years.

How times change: there's me been banging on to the boys about how they CANNOT fail English GCSE or they won't get into University, it was always 5 passes at grade C or above including Maths and English, and at least two to be at (what was) the A level standard.

They were never going to fail Maths ...

Actually it was made very clear to DS3 that if he didn't get a C for English first time around, they'd make him resit in January of 6th form, and if he failed again they'd ask him to leave! Then they quite reasonably asked why he didn't just pull his finger out and pass first time, to save all the aggro, and he finally got the message!
