jam jars and mini bottles help

I am wanting to make jams and chutneys for christmas presents but where do you all get the jars from?
Also toffee vodka, which is the best and cheapest vodka to use? Also where can I get cheap miniature bottles from to put it in?
Thanks

Ask friends for their jars when they are empty from jam, peanut butter etc. When I was at school, many years ago we had to collect jars and take them to school these were then sold to make money for the school christmas party.

  • for vodka/brandy etc I just use the cheapest supermarket brand
  • i buy my jars from the http://www.jamjarshop.com/ :)

    its a bargin at £15.00 for 36 :D x
  • I read on here to buy cheap value range mint sauce and use them....think sainsburys stuff was £0.15 or 19p ..I was struggling to find local jars as I didnt want to wait for online
or as someone said ask friends / neighbors for jars as alot of people recycle them anyway so do tend to keep hold of them

If you don't already belong to your local freecyle group (just google freecyle if you've not heard of it), you could ask for some jam jars on there. A friend of mine did that the other day and now has 40 of them all for free!

thanks for all the replies, I ended up going to sainsburys and buying the 9p a jar curry sauce, I'm going to freeze the sauce in bags and then when I use it add more spices and veg etc, and then I have really cheap jars too. Still need to find some bottles for the toffee vodka though.
  • if you do this, be sure to give the lids a proper rinsing...I found that last year when I used the mint sauce jars, I could still smell the mint despite umpteen washings
  • i bought new lids for mine
the jam jar shop does lovely red polka dot ones (cheaper than lakeland)
    who do lovely gingham ones

and it saves faffing with covering or decorating the tops
  • the polka dot ones aren't in stock and he said they should be getting them in September :( booo i want them now! haha x
  • :(awwww thats a shame

i make chutneys, jams & pickles every year
so i get any supplies in round about May
    so i have everything ready

i have been using some of the same jars for years
(but i did buy over 200 the first time)

i put them in my Christmas hampers
people brought me the jars back

i thought they were just being green aware:o

    it was for re fills:rotfl:
