Refinements to a Henna/Indigo routine

1 - WASH WITH BICARB
Washing hair with bicarb is supposed to strip it of build up and leave the cuticles open.
So I thought that made sense to do a bicarb wash just before a henna/indigo treatment.
2 - ADD AMLA TO THE HENNA/INDIGO MIX
I've added a bit of amla powder to the mix, as it's
A - acidic
B - a conditioner
3 - USE A SHOWER CAP
Virtually all the instructions say to use cling film. Unfortunately, I just can't get the hang of using it on my hair. The stuff tears and clumps up, and I have to use reams of it to get my hair covered.
My hair's waist length, and I just about got the henna-ed messy clump under a shower cap, but it was tons easier than fiddling with cling film.
4 - COMPOSTING!
I don't immediately rinse off the henna/indigo. I lean over the bathtub, and shake the dryish big clumps off into the bath. Then scoop the lot up, wrap it in the newspaper I've covered the floor with for the henna process, and et voila, perfect composting fodder.
Saves on some of the water required to rinse the whole lot off, and I find shaking it off cuts down on the time I spend rinsing, which is great, as the time spent bent over with a heavy head of waterlogged hair is a bit of a strain on the back.
What do you think of these refinements I've added to my routine?

Hi Cattkitt,
A lot there to comment on! Sounds like you're doing just fine though.
I use lush caca on my silvering locks containing both henna & indigo so it's pretty straightforward.
I use a carrier bag clipped over the goo. Also I 'wash' my hair with 'cone free' conditioner only - no shampoo. Hair & scalp in great condition.
I've picked up loads of tips from Long Hair Community, there's soooo much info on there about all the gloops & glops you can put on hair & how it works etc :
