Refused a credit card - why?

My mum has just applied on line for a Virgin card to transfer her Barclaycard balance to - she has never had a missed or late payment in her life so any ideas why she has been turned down????

Yes, but it may also be an idea to look at her credit rating.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • If her credit is fine, is there any chance that she has a 'financial association' with someone else whose credit score is not so good? I only ask because this is just what's happened to me. I have got a copy of my credit file and my credit report is classed as 'excellent' but I was turned down for a cc because of my 'financial association' with my OH who is having a few problems at the moment even though I applied for the card in my own right and did not include him at all. (Our only official 'financial association' is a joint mortgage which hasn't got any problems). I found this out when I phoned the lender to ask why they'd turned me down.

  • Is she on the electoral role? Does she have an income lower than £10'000 a year? Alot of credit cards seem to use this as a cut off point.
