DCA chasing overpayment of wages

Hi my wife had a letter addressed to her from global debt recovery today saying that she owes her previous employers (large supermarket how have now ceased trading) £133 due to an overpayment and if it is not paid a default will be added to her credit file.

She has not worked there in 6 years and she has no recollection of ever being overpaid, she left on good terms. She also never received any contact at all from the employer themselves this is the first we've heard at all.

All the advise i've searched for here and via google seems to be people admitting they were overpaid and cannot find anything as to where she stands..

Firstly is it statute barred as we are in Scotland and that would seem easier to write to them saying forget it?

Or do we ask for proof.. and if we receive proof what can they prove? My wife was contracted for 8 hrs a week but worked different hours every week.. which was the same as everyone in the store.

plz help

    In Scotland statute barred is 5 years.
    Send them a statute barred letter and sit back.

    Did they say how the overpayment occurred.
    make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
    and we will never, ever return.

    an overpayment of salary is not governed by the Consumer Credit Act so quite how they could add a default to your credit file i dont know. I suspect this is scare tactics. If you are in scotland and the debt is over 5 years old then they cant pursue it. i would be inclined to tell them to get lost.

    It looks like it is Statute Barred. But write and ask for proof of the debt - if they are going to chase for something which is Statute Barred, the least they can do is to come up with some proof, even if you ignore them after that.
