Plug & Pray - USB Printer won't install!

I had computer problems and had to reformat my computer. I had since needed to start installing all the extras - at last sorted out my modem. However my printer which only has a USB port just can't be found. I plugged it in and found some drivers from the internet but it simply doesn't seem to realise it's there! I ask it to search for it but no luck!! I have tried it on another computer and immediatly it finds it!!!

How do I force the computer to wake up!
Thanks
Rob

What OS are you using? What printer is it?
  • XP And Canon MP110 I think

I think I found the drivers already but it just won't actually notice when I plug in the USB cable

  • With USB devices, always install the software /drivers first then plug in the device. As the device didn't install correctly the first time, it may not be detected when plugged in again. To check, go to Control Panel > System >Hardware Tab > Device Manager. Look for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark after them. Select any that exist and press the delete key to remove them. Install the software for your printer and then plug it into your USB port. This way round it should be recognised correctly my windows.
  • Excellent the boss (Dad lol ) will be pleased.

Thanks very much, I'll let you know

failing the above, try plugging it into another usb port. TIP. to install a printer driver, ensure you uninstall the older one first. ;)

  • Yes, it worked. I removed the device via My Devices then installed the drivers first then plugged in the device.

    Thanks Cheers!!!
