The first time I had any paperwork was when it was emailed to me with my signature digitally printed into the contract.
A contract with your signature printed on it proves nothing, as you could have signed for one thing on the palmtop and they could have printed out something else. I wonder if they actually have any proof at all that you signed up for a member ship with them.
Of course to use this fact, you would have to state what you believed you were signing for, and it would have to be something plausible. But even if you claimed you'd signed up for 3 months rather than 12, I don't see that they could prove otherwise. This is a bit like when you agree to something on the phone, if they don't have the recording they can't prove anything.0
