Just had the washing machine repair man around (electrical problem), he said I see you use tablets.....
He said they can sometimes be difficult to break down from the drawer & can block the pipes & cause floods. I said is it better to throw them straight in the drum, but he said no, can stain the clothes, use powder, better cleaning than liquid & better for the machine.
He also agreed Quantum Finish tablets were far & away the best thing to stick in your dishwasher.

That is really interesting as it's a complete contradiction to what my washing machine repair man and a plumber told me!
I was told several years ago not to use powder if it can be avoided and to use liquid. Having seen the sludge the plumber got from the drain, I've never used powder since I got my new machine. I now use enviro balls.Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942

They both told me to use liquid where possible as powder doesn't dissolve properly. Having seen the sludge the plumber got from the drain, I've not used powder since.Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942

I use powder and soda crystals. But I think the gunk builds up when you follow manufacturer's instructions and put the recommended amount on the box. I was amazed when I measured out how much they think I should put in the washing machine.
I always use very little (allergies etc) and do a 90C wash every 2-3 weeks to get rid of anything floating around.0 -
I only ever use one tablet and have never had any problems with it dissolving (or not). I use tablets as a means of controlling the amount of powder that goes in, it's too tempting to be a bit heavy handed with the loose powder and can start getting expensive.
I saw a review on the TV a while ago where they tested powders/tablets/gels against each other, and the gels came out bottom in terms of results.
If you are worried about the tablet blocking the pipes, why not break it up a bit before putting in the drawer.Make £2025 in 2025

I prefer liquid, as with powder, and tablets, the washing machine drawer gets clogged. Since using liquid, my drawers are clean.0

Sorry to interrupt, but I have a related question. I just bought Ariel gel (the one that washes in 15C...) and it's written that I have to put the gel into the drum, instead of usual dispenser. Now, what is not clear- do I just pour liquid in the drum, or I have to pour it into measuring cup and keep the measuring cup while washing in the drum? hope that makes sense0

He said tablets were bad, I said I felt tablets & powder wash better than liquid - he agreed & said use loose powder.0 -
