Britannia - £5000 overpayment, no fee

Hello all
I'm not a 100% MFW, more of a Mortgage-Payment-Reducer - would like to get the payments to about £200 a month (was £650, now £430)
I have a question though - I did a £5000 overpayment in March to my mortage with Britannia - I was expecting to lose part of this payment as a penalty (I am only allowed to overpay by £499 a month), but I didn't.
This has been double checked on a statement I requested from them (I always request one when I do a big overpayment) and also in-branch.
In-branch man (who was very nice) was amazed I hadn't been charged, but said no charge would be backdated (hope he is right).
Has anyone else experienced this. All my paperwork suggests I should be charged, but haven't.
I am planning another £5000 at Xmas time, so would be good to know.
Thanks all, peops
