I very rarely buy books .Me, my mum, my cousin, my nan and Auntie just pass them round or I use the library. Its practically opposite my house so no excuse really! The other day i didn't have anything to read so I went to the shop and bought She magazine which had a book with it! Its by an author i like, i've also found the mag interesting so more reading material although doubt I'd buy regularly but its like 2 in 1!! This I think is one area i need to cut back in- magazines.Probably buy 1 a week so going to half this. My mum also buys a few but then she can afford it so we're going to make sure we don't duplicate and swap! Re saving change. Although all mine is accounted for during the month, what I've been doing is this......(you may have seen this on the gc thread).....I need my groceries to come to £275 per month for it not to have a knock on effect to other bills, however I do have a £25 floater. .
Ooh could you tell me where the grocery thread is? I can't seem to find it for this month...Many thanks.
Forgot to take lunch today (rushing) so snaffled some crap out of my drawers. Was determined not to buy lunch in the canteen. Have had lots of meals made for me and the kids this week which has been lovely of my family, so have hardly used any of the shopping I bought last week. Must check and make sure that nothing goes off or out of date.
Keep up the great work everyone...x0 -

Going to have a no spend day either tomorrow or Sunday but hopefully both and also will try on Monday. Kids back to school Tuesday so won't really be going anywhere Monday. Put more £2 in jar and some silver. Going to pay £20 towards gas and electric outstanding.Have also been reading on other threads about Christmas hampers and loving some of the ideas. Feeling good!! Kids and dbf LOVE the cupboards and fridge to be FULL (I think it makes them feel good about having lots of choice) I will aim to shop once a week as am now back at work and the kids are back at school soon too. DD1 is going to seniors and will be having hot dinners (which I pay for on a card so will have to organise a suitable budget for that otherwise she'll rob me blind unintentionally of course); DD2 hates hot dinners and is very rigid: ham sandwich, crisps and a drink. She will not have anything else so should be ok there. Will also start to use slo cooker more as is so economical and easy to have hot dinner when walk in the door. Yay!
* Will not spend any money on takeaways despite being too tired to cook.
Here goes!!
Hi I saw your post & the first point got me thinking. When I was a kid things were really tough. My mum often didn't prioritise getting food & our cupboards were often bare (a mixture of not having enough money and just being plain irrresponsible) so when my kids were growing up I always had to have full cupboards & fridge/freezer. It made me feel good to know I was doing it differently! So I can totally relate to this.
with regard to the 2nd point, I now often make double portions & freeze so on nights when I cba to cook I have a "takeawy" - home made, healthier & cheaper too (and doesn't come with the gutted feeling the next day realising I've wasted £15) hth x
