Hi everyone,
My two dd's have got into horse riding in a big way. They have been going for over a month and totally love it (even riding in the rain and getting wet through).
I was wondering if anyone could help with where to find good cheap riding boots, Hats and body protecters.
Dd1 has already fallen off a horse and hurt herself but got stright back on. So luckaly it has not stopped her.
If anyone can help i would be very gratefull

Have a look at this equipment guide from Tesco.

Decide on what you want to get then compare prices with Ebay sellers. Just make sure that they have good feedback.0 -
I bought most of my DD riding stuff on ebay, specially jodhpurs, gloves etc as they grow out of them so quickly. The 2 things I bought brand new was a body protector and a riding hat...yes they are expensive but you can't put a price on them hurting their head or body. Buying them 2nd hand is dangerous incase they been dropped (hat mainly).
Have a look on www.robinsons-uk.com as they currently have a fab sale on, we just bought loads of rugs, haynets etc for our ponies at very good prices. Equestrian clearance have a sale on too but I find them more expensive then robinsons0 -
Thank you for your help.
Will have a look at the sites. Off to the local farmers shop today to have a look there at prices.
Have to measure the girls up for sizes. As niether are standard sizes. One ultra slim with no hips or bum the other has very wide feet so may have a problem finding boots that fit.
Thank you again

NEVER buy hats or body protectors from anywhere other than an experienced equestrian establishment like a saddlery. To ensure safety, they must conform to the current safety standards and be correctly fitted. Tesco's are not kitemarked or tested to PAS 015!!!!!
For anything else ebay is a great idea. Robinsons Equestrian is a huge wholesaler with regular discounts, bargains and sales. And local tack shops will have sales on right now where you can pick up masses of dealsThe only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -
Our riding hats have an adjustable chin strap and meet the current safety standards which are PAS015 or BSEN1384.

When they started selling them they were not kitemarked standard. It seems that they have now changed this for some of the hats (thank goodness!). However, a badly fitting hat can be worse than no hat at all, so it's still unwise to buy from supermarkets as they have no facility to fit the hats correctly. The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -
A good riding school will do all the necessary checks and adjustments.0

dd rides and hte one thing that has never been skimped on is a hat and a body protector - as bikers, we go by the motto if you have a 2 bob head buy a cheap helmet! and the same applies to riding gear
we have a BATA here and they're fab, very knowledgeable about what they sell and very good at fitting. dd was going to buy a cheap body protector however they just didn't fit her, she also has wide feet so boots were a nightmare!'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
Do you have a pony club near you? They will have parents who will be quite happy to sell up outgrown boots and bodyprotectors.
Equestrian Clearance.com are good IF you know what size you need, also try asking in your local saddlers (or look to see if they have a second hand board or section)
I have the Tesco adjustable hat for my DD http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-3205.aspx (I have one too as does my mother!) and yes it's current standard, it's also fully adjustable so will be good for those rapid growing heads. You never know how strong you are until you have no other option.0 -
Sounds silly, but my friend got her daughter a body protector from a boot sale.
And before anyone jumps down my neck.... Yes I know it will not be fitted by a qualified fitter, but the fits of body protectors are pretty standard.
What you can do it go and have them measured and fitted and look out for a second hand one that way you know what size to look for and how to check it yourself. And to be double sure, if you haven't spent too much have the riding school check the fits, if they say no sell them on, or ask the Riding School if they'll buy it off you
I've had horses all my life and riding daily I wouldn't dream of getting a second hand one, but for the amount of time Child are riding during lessons I can not see how people can justifie the spend.0
