im visiting my son and he has just done a wash and all the clothes have come out with fluff all over. He does not have a working tumbler dryer or a clothes brush. Any ideas how he can get rid of it.

wrap sellotape round your hand sticky side out and run it over clothes. It works for cat hair so should work for fluff. May take awhile if it's a whole wash-ful!

I'd do the sellotape thing too - if you haven't got any but have a rubber glove, put this on, damp it a bit and rub over the clothes in one direction, like you're stroking a cat - this can get fluff off as well - maybe try a damp hand if you're desperate!
  • can't he get to a shop and pick up a clothes brush?

If it was due to something obvious (e.g. a tissue, now found and removed), I'd run a rinse wash. I'd then wrap tape round a can of deodorant and use that instead of a lint roller.

If your son can't identify why the clothes came out covered in fluff, I'd suggest checking the filter, to see if it's caked up.

you can also try popping on a rubber washing up glove, and rubbing down the clothes.

parcel tape works for picking up fluff and is usually cheaper than Sellotape.

Thankyou everyone for your very quick responses. I'm sorry I didn't reply before but using DS's computer was a real pain - it kept putting words where I didn't want them - I think I was accidentally pressing keys - so I waited till I could get back home to my own machine.
DS decided instead to use his own method which consisted of very vigor shaking + hand brushing followed by rinse cycle, to be repeated until clear.
You may be glad to know that he is now going to get a clothes brush.
