what area do you live in op?.. If in bmth area could spare some food.

Also check out if there are any tea and coffee mornings going on near you, was suggested to another op who was in same position..

Its times like this where you find out who your real friends are.

Do you have any nectar points as 500 points you can use for £2.50 worth of shopping..

  • Also, in Bristol, there are shelters/kitchens that do free food. I drive past them on my way to and from work. You don't have to be homeless to eat there, just unable to afford to eat.

Four years ago at uni, I was often in the same situation. It's amazing how you can actually make a little bit go a long way if you are super thrifty. Failing the shelter/kitchen idea, is there anything you could flog to CEX or similar to tie you over?
  • As daft as it sounds - I was in this situation once and offered to collect glasses for a couple hours in exchange for something to eat at the pub - ended up giving me a fiver, cheap meal and drink!

There are also emergency crisis loans and grants available for people on income support and job seekers - you should be able to go to the job centre or cab and use their phones to apply for it.

I got given some money through that once for clothes when I found my job after being on job seekers as literally didn't have anything to wear - would think no food is more important.

You could also try volunteering at the local charity shop - you'll get free tea and biscuits - a bit of experience and if you explain your situation possibly some freebies.
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!
  • Where are you OP?

I find the church are good when you find your self in an unfortunate position like this. Do you have a local cap branch, they brought me a bag of food when i had my benefit suspended, we managed to make it last around 10 days. Chin up, i'ts a difficult time, but will hopefully soon pass

Thanks for your messages - good to know there is some support out there. The good post was the Sainsbury's change - managed to get £4.74 there so that was something. Rang the JSA for emergency funding but hopefully I might get some money in before Wednesday. The max funding I could get was £40 repayable over 3 weeks, but they couldnt post me a giro, I would have to collect in person - which meant more expense so given up on that one. Have managed to sell a couple of things on ebay so maybe end of next week will be better. Sorry havent posted before - have been in hibernation trying to dissassociate myself from my problems!

Is there a Salvation Army near you? They usually run coffee mornings, soup kitchens etc. maybe you could offer your help as a volunteer. You'll meet people, who won't be fairweather friends as they'll often be in the same boat as you.
