They have. They want to be kept and cossetted from the cradle to the grave and for someone else to pay for that. In happens every once in a while. The Romans called it "panem et circenses".
It eventually fails because of the freeloader problem. Then quite a lot of people starve."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Im preparing to be crucified on this one, but what the hay
Everyone can find they can stretch there budget one way or another, there are many methods of earning more money and getting deals
For example, I have not bought a razor in a year, thanks to signing up for various free razor offers through the site.
I have cut out beer all together, which has been hard seen as tho i was pretty much an alchoholic, if i can do it, anyone can.
I have stopped wasting money at work on food, 3 days this week i have taken rice, and some fruit, 50 quid a month saved, as this is all from the normal shop.
Haggled down price of my mobile, cancelled sky (and tv alltogether for that matter)
These are indeed challenging times, advertisors/merchants and also the government are trying to take away all our money, to be honest we are almost a slave race now, because peoipel work all week to buy c**p and drink/go out at weekends and thats it.
There has got to be more to life that this!
I know people say "oh its a sacrifice giving up fags/beer (which are ruining your health, Sky (which is mostly repeats and boring), expensive clothing/accessories (which in a years time will be out of fashion and you will thing "what the heck was i thinking"), expensive cars (walk, also your car does not make you)
I know to be honest im preaching to the converted, but i do want to say this.
Also when you have weened yourself off consumerist lifestyle, then you will have time/money/energy/self respect/brain power to start your own business, so then you dont have to do that job you hate to pay for rubbish/credit card debt

how much do people consider a bloody good wage though.
because some people on low-ish wages seem to manage fine......0 -
My husband also got a 3% pay rise this year, however, company pension contributions have gone up along with our mortgage and energy costs. I've yet to work out the net decrease in real terms.
I guess we could cut back in some areas of spending, but it gets harder and harder.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

But you don't have a mortgage and no rent. Which for most people will take most if not all of what you earn a month.
That makes a big difference. And is not comparing like with like.
Does that included any tops ups like Tax credits or just what you earn in wages.
For a lot of people they seem to think that the BIG cars/TV's etc are what life is it about.
What ever happened to buying what you can afford. Just look at weddings and how much people spend. Some spend more than I paid to buy my flat 8 years ago (£35K)find if you have a million in the bank fine. But other wise  personally to me.
If worst came to the worst then we could manage on my wage (which it looks like we will be for the next few weeks) But we would not be able to manage if things like the washing machine goes wrong or the car breaks down.
But hey life is fun and was never meant to be easy :rotfl:

This might sound a bit daft but many years ago I was advised to save whatever payrise I was given i.e. if you earn 10k and got a new job that paid 13k then still live like you earn 10k and save the 3k. The thinking behind this was that if you could survived on 10k there was no need to raise the spending level. The money could be put aside for the rainy days.
Obviously I never ever followed that advice otherwise I wouldn't have gotten into debt. I spent like I was earning 20k when i was actually earning 13k.
Once I am debt free I'll consider re-visiting that idea and might even give it a go.
cheers,

Although I'll be getting into debt again this year, due to studying, it's how I will manage to survive on my tight budget, and how I plan to repay the debt once i'm earning again.
And when it's paid off again - I'ma going on a very well deserved spending spree!!! Yeee-hawww!!
After i've filled my ISA allowance, of course.0
