I wanted one, I actually WANTED one!!! I saw them yesterday, but thought I would get one today, thinking they surely couldn't all go in one day!!!

Do you think any of the toy stores have actually got them in? Or have they not even got that far?

    Any thoughts!!

Try woolworths, they are in stock sometime today.

  • What are eBayers expatations/profit margin rules?

Personally, I aim to sell whatever item at 100% profit. Spending £35 on Elmo I would only really be happy with at least £30 profit after ebay fees/postage etc. otherwise that £35 could have gone on something better.
  • Thanks Madmoys!

Hamleys have them to order now - I just ordered it before you posted!! Would have been better from Woolies, could have save on the postage, but I have my elmo!! That's all that matters!!

Now of course I'm thinking maybe I should get one from Woolies and try and sell it!! lol!!! I wouldn't dare! too scared of losing money!!!

Thank you everyone, hope you enjoy (or sell for what you hoped) your elmos!!!!

    My thoughts are this.

Look at the date on your calander, it is still September. It is more than three whole months before Xmas. I doubt very much that these things take very long to make, I should think it is possible for a few good assembly lines to make one per second.

The date is important, generally if there is going to be a problem with production you find that a toy manufacturer will put back the time. For instance Nintendo Wii this year (Dec 8th) and Xbox 360 last year (Dec 2nd). The reason for this is there is two ways to make money out of a "Xmas Fad".

One is to build massive assembly lines and make as many as possible but take on the fact it costs a lot of money to start and stop these lines. The other is to build small assembly lines and make as few as possible but at a higher price but with less startup and stop costs.

The choice usually depends on what you feel will happen after Xmas. If you feel that the toy or game will continue to sell but in smaller numbers then generally it is better to choose a smaller assembly line and charge the higher price. If you feel that once xmas is over there will be no call for your toy then you generally try to make and sell as many as you can before xmas.

No one can answer the question of if they will satisfy demand but I can guarantee that this fad will be gone by the new year and the makers know full well that assembly lines will have to close then. Unlike the consoles the need for them will be almost gone.

I am going to buy my son one. After Xmas :D

If I read the CNN report correctly these take ages to make... also they usually make 1.5 million but only managed 50 to 60 % of these so making it less that 800,000 worldwide? I think it will go up in value - at worst you will get you moola back or lose a fiver. I did buy 3 but cancelled one. Thinking I should have now...
Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:
  • I agree with Kondormid and this could go both ways. Fisher-Price will obviously try and up their production to meet demand because they do not want to lose money out on the christmas fad so it might be worth considering that they will have more ready for xmas and have a surplus??? will have to wait and see ...

Here is an article from cnn money.

    Tough to get?

Jim Silver, editor of Toy Wishes magazine, said Elmo T.M.X. has the potential of being one of the blockbuster toys of the year, especially in the pre-school category.

However, the new Elmo could very well become "extremely" hard to find.

"Because the technology is so complicated, it's taking longer to make the new Elmo. Fisher-Price is only making between 50 to 60 percent of the full-year production of the new Elmo," Silver said, adding that Fisher-Price typically produces a million and a half units of Elmo for the holidays.

"There's going to be a shortage for T.M.X.," he said.

If Fisher-Price scores a hit with Elmo, it would seem that a shortage could work in the company's favor by boosting demand for product. But Silver said no toymaker wants to lose sales of an extra 500,000 units during the key November and December period that accounts for as much as 50 percent of toymaker's profits and sales.

Neil Friedman, president of Fisher-Price Brands, said he's confident the company can meet this year's demand target as long as Elmo sells at the levels the company has anticipated for it.

"If T.M.X. becomes a runaway hit then we may have to chase the demand with extra production," he told CNNMoney.com.

Friedman said Fisher-Price worked 18 months to develop the technologically advanced T.M.X.

"Our job is to be innovative," he said. "We'll use technology where we feel it can enhance out toy product. and not just for technology's sake."

There will be yet another new Elmo next year, "That's all we're saying about that. Stay tuned," Friedman said

In the meantime, Wal-Mart (Charts), KB Toys and Toys "R" Us are keen to exploit the Elmo buzz to boost sales at their stores. Wal-Mart and other toy sellers also held special Elmo events Tuesday at some locations to coincide with the launch.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Jolanda Stewart said T.M.X. Elmo was selling at the rate of 5 to 6 units per minute in its stores.

"We've been extremely pleased with the customer response to Elmo," she said."Crowds were at Secaucus ( N.J.) Wal-Mart ready to pick up the the lil' guy early this morning and the response to the furry loveable guy was overwhelming. Our online pre-sales of Elmo have exceeded our sales forecast by 150 percent."

Toys "R" Us' flagship location in midtown Manhattan was already sold out of T.M.X. Elmo two hours after the store opened.

KB Toys' chief marketing officer, Ernie Speranza, told CNNMoney.com that sales of T.M.X. were surpassing sales expectations at the retailer's stores nationwide.

"We usually don't see this kind of hype for a new toy until mid-October when we're closer to the holiday season. It's great for the toy industry," Speranza said, adding that KB Toys opened an hour early to let shoppers buy their Elmo.

It's all about the 'risk' ratio, isn't it? Get 5 of these things and stick it out until the bitter end and it all goes mammaries skywards and, seriously, how much have you lost? Even IF F-S get lots of these made between now and Xmas, the toy is still going to have some value. What if you lose £10 on each of the 5 toys? £50 down. It's very akin to gambling, I suppose, in that you really shouldn't gamble what you can't aford to lose. Where it differs to gambling is that if you lose on the horses you've just got a worthless betting slip left. Here at least you stil have a 'saleable' product. Am I making sense or just getting caught up in the excitement??:o
