wentworth Finance administration fee for 'available loans'

Please be aware of the fee that is paid to this company for 'providing a loan'. They are supposedly meant to await your authority for the administation fee of £59, which is not with my case. However, what is more frightening is that they have set my payment up as a 'continuous authority'. I have read many complaints about this company on various complaints websites and the method of how they procede for everyone appears to be the same.
What worries me the most is the method of payment. I have been advised by my bank, Barclays that the bank cannot cancel this payment method. At any time the company can claim another payment, which I have read in some cases they have. Wentworth have complete control over taking money from your account because of this payment system and your bank cannot do anything about it. I have contacted Consumer Direct and they have logged my complaint. They have informed of the next correct procedures and to also contact the Financial Ombudsman. If you have paid money for the administration fee, I would strongly advise you to find out if this payment was made as a 'continuous authority' and if so get further advise.

Because they didn't read the Ts & Cs most likely......!

    Ooooops.... Groundhog Day..........
  • it's not the payment in question here Chris because they do mention this ....what isn't mentioned in the ts and cs is the way they take the payment....and that is my worry as you can see......not the amount

New to the forum so not too sure how it works. Can I ask was it a card payment you made to Wentworth? I too got caught out by them and before anyone recites anything to me about T & C's - yes I did read them!! If you did make the payment by card what you need to do is advise Barclays that your card details have been compromised and therefore you wish to cancel it. It will be indeed inconvenient not to have a debit card for a while but if it means that this 'company' will not be able to take at will your money methinks it is worth it!!
I have done the whole written refund request to them - 3 times. The last two times I sent back to back recorded deliveries so I knew they had been signed for on receipt. I received a letter yesterday from them stating that in order to claim a refund I must submit to them a copy of my passport/driving licence, a payslip and a utility bill. Obviously I cannot type what my verbal response to this was but I'm sure you can imagine. Why they would require all of this to process a refund cheque is beyond me? They claim it is because they have had a number of fraudulent applications where refunds were requested - bearing in mind my name and address is on the letters I sent them and the card I initially paid with was in my name.
Once bitten twice shy!! They would simply have used my details and continued to search for loans and I even think submit initial applications. I think that companies such as these genuinely believe that the public are at worst complete morons or at best a bit slow!! I will be forwarding copies of aforementioned letter to the Financial Ombudsman and continuing in my quest to get a refund from 'Wentworth Undirect.' Stay clear of Wentworth Direct Finance as they are anything but direct.:mad::mad:

Good word Shadow35, nobody on here defends them but it is good to see someone following the proper channels to get a refund.

It may take a while but you are going the right way about it.

already done it.....it is the bank that told me that it isn't just my debit card that is compromised......if i order a new debit card the first eight numbers on the new card will be the same....and enough for wentworth to use........they also can transfer if i close my account and open a new one.....this is actual information from Barclays themselves......it is actually quite frightening how much control these continuous authorities issued by wentworth for claiming money have. the only way is to get the financial ombudsman to take on your case to cancel it if the company won't

Thank you for the harsh but nevertheless advice Chri5 and Enfieldian......but you both totally have missed the point here and I hope your comments don't stop people from realising that this is strong advice..
I want to write this so that anyone who is in the same situation as myself will not be intimidated. I am new to this forum and I want to help people constructively. If you have had money taken from your bank account by Wentworth Direct because you gave your debit card details for a loan that never materialised, please go and find out from your bank whether the 'administration' payment of £59 was debited using a 'continuous authority'. If this is the case I suggest from the advice that I have been given by Consumer Direct that you contact the company and state that you want the payment method to be cancelled and confirmed in writing and also contact the Financial Ombudsman as per the Consumer Direct.
This payment method cannot be cancelled by your bank, ....if you stop your debit card, the first 8 numbers on your new debit card would be the same as your old one and those 8 numbers are enough for the company to still take money from your account. If you close this account with the intention of opening a new account the bank is obliged to transfer the continous authority because it was issued by a lending company. This is the advice issued to my by an advisor at Barclays Bank. If this is the case seek advice as this payment method is indefinitely binding. It was stated to me by via the telephone and in a letter from Wentworth Direct that this was a supposedly one off payment......so why take the payment from my account using a continuous authorisation???????

Continuous authorisation (also known as 'Continuous Payment Authority') can only be done on a credit card and NOT a debit card. It is basically a credit card accounts version of a direct debit, but it can only be cancelled by the claimant.
