HMRC refuses to refund PAYE overpayment - Advice please

Thanks all for your comments and support...
Very much aware that it's the 'system' at fault, (almost) all the staff I've spoken to have done what they can but, when it's a choice between paying the rent and buying school uniforms, the stress starts to build!Remember:

I wonder if they are so laissez faire about collecting taxes as they are about repaying overpayments?
I think we all know the answer to that question.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
Woo hoo, actually got a call back... not from the Centre dealing with my refund but in response to my request for a meeting at the local office. (Wednesday 10.15am)
BTW wasn't aware this was possible and, I understand, NEVER offered by HMRC but lucky for me there's an office in town.
Progress of sorts, so unjustifiably excited! Will keep you posted.Remember:

Sorry to disappoint you but the staff in the local enquiry centre will not be able to resolve the issue for you though they may be able get you a bit further forward. They can take a note of complaint/interview and pass it on to the customer operations processing teams. As a previous poster said take along a letter from your trustee to help your complaint.
Staff in enquiry centres are not required to have any knowledge of bankruptcy procedures as this is classed as a technical issue and they will defer to technicians via telephone during the interview if necessary. That's unless you get someone who previously worked with bankruptcies in the past.
HMRC enquiry centres regularly arrange appointments with customers after referrals are sent by the contact centres. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Pam17 - Disappointed.... yup, as you said the local staff know nothing more than I do! There is an upside, they offered to go through internal systems to push my claim through.
Next deadline for response is Sept 1... waiting with interest.Remember:

Should have reported earlier, but finally got my refund less an underpayment while I was temping.
It turns out they had lost my paper file!
I received a letter of apology, LOL.Remember:
