Wannabe house buyers seeing rents rise

A colleague was recently talking about going away to a place on the French/Spanish border, where they go every year, timing their holiday to coincide with a local fiesta. At this fiesta, a fire is made on the street in the town square, a whole cow is roasted on it, and the villagers set to with carving knives, feeding everyone around.
What struck me most about this wasn't the community spirit, but the fact that my other colleagues, to a person, bemoaned with great envy that you couldn't do it in this country. (And I work in the charity sector.)
Just think of how many rules that would break. The final irony, I suppose, is that the blaim for those rules tends to be heaped on the EU. But then that's another debate.
Totally agree on both points. We visited the Acazaba in Malaga - great, little walkways around the fort with sheer drops on one side with no fencing at all and around waist-high fences on the road/cliff side - so basically !!!!!! all protection to anyone careless or deliberately risky. In England it would all be shut down or fenced off to within an inch of its existence. Lawyers would be crawling all over it. And yet people would still fall/jump.
There, the only safety 'measure' was a rather charming picture next to the steps leading up to all the walkways, of a person falling off the stairs, with a line through it, crossing it out. ie international language for 'look where you're going and mind you don't fall'.
Worked a treat - saw no accidents, people were sensible and enjoyed it.
Wish we could do that here.
Also saw fantastic fiestas - totally agree about community spirit being a whole lot better. Enjoyed a (free) flamenco display from a local school - dozens of girls/ladies, from primary school age uo to grandmas, all joining in their national dance, looking stunning, having fun, and proud of their culture.
You'd never get a load of English kids taking up English country dancing or morris dancing - they're all elderly. It just wouldn't be 'cool' enough for the young.
A great shame.

Agreed, it seems that binge drinking is a more true reflection of the youth culture nowadays.
Don't get me wrong, when I was young, I also took in the party scene, but I drank sociably.
I could count on one hand the ammount of times I was 'blootered'
I'm shocked how many young people that want to gout on the weekends to get so drunk they can't recall what happened. That's their idea of a good weekend and it's not if they haven't had a hangover the following day.:wall:

Another generalisation thread that carries no weight in the real world, who are LSL Property Services?
Rents have been dropping in North Wales for over a year, those who don't drop their rental prices - have empty properties.
Fact...0 -
of course they arePotential first-time buyers are facing rising rents as they wait to raise a deposit for a home, a survey has said.
as people on here keep on telling us; there are less people buying houses.
less people buying houses means more people are going to need to rent.
increased rental demand is going to do one thing to rental prices and it's not push them down...0 -
