Belfast sink too low for hubbie to wash up !

Options
When I bought my house the belfast sink had a plastic stand in the bottom of it, on which the washing up bowl could rest. This raised the bowl to a more reasonable height and I could get my 6'4'' tall hubbie to wash the occasional mug. :j
However, sadly the stand has now lost one leg, (I suspect sabotage, although he strenuously denies it ,) giving hubbie the perfect excuse to claim that doing the washing up gives him backache.:(
I have tried all over to find a replacement, there is a manufacturers name stamped on it, but I think the company may no longer exist as I've been unable to contact them, I've tried local kitchen companies ,hardware shops, even good old Lakeland nobody seems to know anything about such an item.
So as a last resort I am hoping that somebody on MSN may know where I can get a replacement. I promise I'll not tell hubbie where I got the information !! My poor, sore, wrinkled hands would be grateful for any assistance.

  • Hi have you had any luck sourcing an appliance to raise your washing up bowl? I have the same problem in my household. Any advice will be welcomed:)

Give him a stool to sit on

Could you get a shallow lock & lock tub (or 2)to sit the bowl on till something else turns up?

Doh just noticed this thread is quite old :)

I replaced a belfast sink for the same reason and because I wanted to fit a dishwasher under the sink. Have a white ceramic sink now and very pleased. Was wondering if you could get a second washing up bowl and turn it upside down to put your bowl of dishes on?

  • I had exactly the same problem where at 6 foot 2 my butler sink is too low. I bought a chrome wire shelf/plate rack at £5.49 from Robert Dyers and sit the washing up bowl on that that works well and still allows the water to easily drain away

    Thankyou so much!

I can't wait to use the back ache excuse now - i've been trying to find a way out of doing the dishes for years!

Maybe SWMBO will let me buy her a dishwasher now!

Belfast sink? How posh. In South Wales they were always called the bosh.
