hello im currently looking for a new job as things arnt working for me with my current one, i have informed them that i am looking and they reminded me today that i have to give 1 months notice, my question is if i was offered a job but the new employer needed me to start within two weeks would my current employer have to let me go or would i be stuck? only i cant see many companies being willing to wait that long :(

One month's notice is neither unreasonable nor uncommon.

I believe that notice periods can often be negotiated, however it might be best to state one month as your notice period when you're applying for and being interviewed for new jobs.

After receiving an offer, it may be possible to work less notice, provided that your new employer can slot you in to start in two weeks, rather than four.

Either way, many employers will be prepared to let you work your full notice period, as one month is the norm for many employees. As long as you're upfront about the fact that your notice period is one month, you're unlikely to run into much difficulty.
