This is my first look at the latest Pigsback thread. At the risk of resurrecting yet more debate, I'd just like to add my penn'orth about this thread in general. :o

There are no additional 'rules' to posting on the Pigsback thread, other than the main rules that apply to posting anywhere on the forum.

One of the fundamental rules is to 'be nice to other moneysavers!' Sometimes this is harder said than done, I know, but it is difficult to phrase things appropriately online and people can often take offence at comments where none was meant.

The regulars on this thread do feel a real attachment to it, but can sometimes forget that there are other threads/boards on this site where discussions may be more appropriate. Essentially, the Pigsback thread is intended to be about Pigsback and (in the spirit of the Freebies board) helping each other to find the quickest way to build up Piggypoints and get the free stuff! :money:

There is a written rule specifically about keeping threads (more or less) on topic HERE and I personally think it is very well written. This isn't enforced draconally (sp?) but is there to help threads run smoothly. Just because a thread is very popular doesn't mean that it is always the best place to discuss all things and everything. ;)

Jules is very helpful at keeping a post updated with all the up-to-date competitions and piggypoint links etc. It's great, it's really useful but it isn't mandatory to use it! :o

Everywhere on this site, information is duplicated - it's inevitable given the number of people using this site. Giving useful pointers to where information can be found is also great but it is just about finding the balance between pointing something out without causing unnecessary offence (particularly to new posters.)

I've often misjudged that balance myself and inadvertently and totally unintentionally offended new posters with comments that were meant to be helpful and inoffensive. :o I'm not saying that people need to tread on eggshells when posting, just that it is always worth previewing posts before submitting.

The vast majority of posters on this thread are helpful people who share an enthusiasm for Pigsback, the Freebies board and MSE. :T There is no need for any cliques or to enforce strict 'pigsback' rules around who can post what information. So long as it's within the broad perimeters of this site's rules, then that should be fine.

I wanted to just say that i enjoy reading the pigsback thread with the odd little bit of sidetracking...... If i am not interested in a particular piece then i skim past it, it doesnt annoy me or take much time to do so.

Also I do not see the 'pigsback regulars' as a clique but more of a group of people who have been around a while, know what they are talking about and more than happy to help out with an answer to any question. I say thanks and keep it up!!! :D

  • Dont know if anyone can help me, I just started to order a dvd on cdwow and filled in the order and entered my pigback voucher code for £7.99. It said accepted, then I saw that I had put my country as USA in error so I clicked the back button to change it. Page had expired. When I tried to go back and place order again it says voucher is already in use and wont take it off again. Have I now lost my £7.99 credit? I've tried allsorts and cant get back to that original page.

This happened to me with a £20 voucher - turns out that if you just wait until the next day, the voucher will start working again - i guess they realise that you haven't actually used it, so credit it back to your account. Hope it works! If not contact Pigsback.

I agree with you.. I enjoy reading what everyone contributes to the thread.. whether PB related or off topic 'waffle' :D

I first mentioned the word 'clique' so I'll give my reasons for doing so.. Firstly I'd like to stress that I dont think the 'regulars' or more prolific posters see themselves as this, I meant more along the lines of people apologising or being nervous about posting quiz answers etc because certain people usually do it.. or others stating that the people that post answers make the thread what it is.. that kind of thing - I hope that doesn't offend anyone, but thats how I see it.. (Hope that makes sense, others usually say it far more eloquently than I do)

I think we all make the thread what it is.. And I applaud those that keep us up to date with everything piggy related, it certainly makes life easier to follow links and info posted on here.. As Claire mentioned, it doesn't matter who posts answers, its just great that you all take the time to do so, you're a dedicated bunch :-)

I just think we (me included) should be a bit more tolerant when we see people post duplicate links, questions, something you don't like - whatever!.. As mentioned, its easy to skim by or ignore certain posts/posters.. I think we should be able to post if we disagree with or have a different opinion to others without being labelled as a trouble maker or as bickering, as long as its done in a civil manner I dont see a problem.

On the other hand for those relatively new to the thread its often a good idea to 'lurk before you leap' so to speak.. have a poke around, you may find that everything you want to know has been mentioned already - or that link has already been spotted. Please dont be offended if someone points out that we've already seen your link, as its never done to be nasty (IMO) unfortunately some do tend to take it the wrong way..

I'll shut up now (can hear a chorus of 'thank god')

Happy clicking everyone.. Keep up the good work

Often with winning things there's no notification... people just seem to have things turn up on their doorstep!! So we'll have to wait and see... so exciting ;) :rotfl:

I suspect they were flooded with info about the old curlies... it did say only the first person to point out each one will get the points!
