How long does perfume last?

Sitting on the shelf in the shop, I mean. My local village pharmacy stocks my favourite perfume on occasion. It beats CheapSmells on price, but............how long has it been in stock? And does that matter?

Probably not, I stored some favourite (discontinued) perfume under my bed in the dark for 5 years. Ask the shop how old it is.

If stored in a cool dark place it will stay free for years. But if sitting on a store shelf with a light hitting it and no box avoid.

Why don't you ask the pharmacy?

Bear in mnd that most independents buy their stock greylist, if it's an established scent the stock may be old when it reaches the pharmacy itself. I would take a punt and buy it regardless; you can always keep it in the fridge at home which should delay further decomposition.

It keeps for ages if you keep it in the fridge

I have mine all in the fridge. I did have one which I bought one year in the Jan sales, seemed fine, was from Selfridges (fantastic offer) however by the summer it was well dead! I had left it in the bathroom on the window sill.
  • A long time - so long as it hasnt been too warm - I hoard my favourite discontinued perfume in the bedside cabinet.

Thanks, what is a "grey list"?

Re. storing it in the fridge - is that better than a dark place?
