Tesco vouchers in other people's name

I've tried to find this elsewhere, but without luck..

I've found a £5.50 voucher - no big deal, but money's money after all. It belonged to the previous owner of my house (sadly now deceased). The question I have is, can I use it? And if yes, how do I go about using it?

Thanks in advance.

  • I understand that you can use vouchers of the same postcode to you.

My Mum offered me a load of hers (for theme parks etc) and I called CS to see if that was OK. CS said that as my ol' girl was at a different address - I couldn't use them.

    Give it a go....

    Thanks for the reply.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance - I was thinking of just taking them into the local Tescos and using them over the counter. Are you saying I could probably use them for deals? I guess I should explain that I don't even have a Tesco Clubcard!
  • I would use it in store. But would the assistant think it odd you didn't also produce a ClubCard? Self scan it?

Shop online? Get £5.50 off a CD etc or do a proper shop?

You can tell I don't often do the shopping. Can you pay with a voucher on self scan then?

yes you can use coupons and vouchers on self scan, I found some points vouchers in a trolley today and used them as they were for items i wanted anyway and the other person had just left them in the trolley with the receipt and packaging off a sandwhich etc

I can't see a problem either. I'd use your key fob clubcard bit though as it hasn't got your name on it.

I've used other family member's vouchers (who live at different addresses) for deals and in-store and have never had any bother.

The previous owner of our house (4 years ago!) still has her Tesco clubcard statement (and vouchers) sent to this address. I haven't got a forwarding address so all these vouchers are just sitting here. What should I do? I feel kind of bad using them, but they are going to waste. Any ideas??

I would do your shopping, hand it over at the till, just say you've forgotten your clubcard but could he scan this please? (always choose a young male on the till if trying to see if vouchers will scan or not, don't set foot near a middle-aged lady!).

If it beeps ('computer says no') then just say, oh, I wondered if it would be OK, it's from an old Clubcard account that I have since merged with OH's/Mum's/Dog's (and just take it back). The cashier won't bat an eyelid as they are often asked to scan coupons and similar offers, some of which 'beep' because they are out-of-date or have a minimum spend, etc.

By rights, you should return them to Tesco's by writing "Not at this address" on the envelope. If you still receive them, write them a letter and put her Tesco letter in with it.

You're not entitled to them. To tamper with other people's mail is an offense as far as I'm aware.
