It is always worth appealing a Penalty Charge Notice, if they reject your claim you still have the opportunity to pay the reduced fee (unless you want to appeal further) so you've got nothing to lose. Even if they have you bang to rights, I've found that a polite grovelling letter (but not too OTT) brings the right result:)

A vehicle parked outside our office this morning got a parking ticket. As he had paid and displayed I assume he had been done for parking over two bays.

In this case he deserved to be ticketed though as at that time in the morning he had the choice of where to park and there was no reason to park the way he did. He did actually leave the street one parking space short because no-one else could use the bay was over hanging. He was still there as the parking bays began to fill up so it did cause a problem. I noticed that the traffic wardens were taking photographs of the vehicle where it was parked over the white line so there no escape for this one.

It drives me mad when you go into car parks and people have parked so badly everyone else has to as well. I find it really embarrassing though when I park out of line because of other vehicles but when I come back to my car they have all gone. There's my little car sitting proudly in the middle of the car park looking as if I haven't a clue how to park. It must be particularly galling though to come back and find you have a ticket because of someone's else's bad parking. I hope the OP gets a result from their letter.
  • Hi,

If you ever have to park over two bays again, it may be worth buying two pay and display tickets, I know it is not ideal, especially if you plan to stay for a long time, but for shorter stays, it usually works out cheaper than a parking fine!

I know this is allowed in most council car parks as my partner used to be a traffic warden.

Good luck in gettting off you fine,
    BB

I've never had a fine before but when someone parks over the white line and there is still room for me to park, i park up, write down the number plate of the vehicle that has gone over the line knowing full well that to get back into their car would cause them to squeeze in and more than likely bash my car and dent it. At least that way i have the plate number to chase up if they do!

Great tip - what if the car is not registered to them? What if they are not insured? What if they just tell you to prove it?

Personally - I don't park to close in this situation. I do however leave notes on people who cannot park straight in a car park and leave me squeezing in my door by a couple of inches. I tell them I don't have a tin opener on me so could they please park straight next time in the centre of the box.

right, so if you park close to my car and make a nice dint in it....would you leave your name and address on the same piece of paper for me to send you bill?
