Whereto buy a good suit without spending a fortune?

I have bought the Ungaro suit in TkMaxx, it looked very nice but after just ten times out it become... well in my opinion it would be good now only for begging, not anything else.
So, I need to buy a new good suit which will look good for years, not a few days. It should survive London underground and London rain.
And it is also important not to spend a fortune. Can anyone recommend a good brand, a shop or a tailor?
There is virtually no limit on budget - it could be from £200 to £2000 but I need the best value for money.
Thank you.

If you wear suits on a regular basis you need to rotate them and have more than one. The best suit in the world will be knackered in under a year with daily wearing.
Get three suits from anywhere you like http://www.asuitthatfits.com/shop/index.php?option=com_garmentselector&Itemid=365&gclid=CKWVmca7xqMCFYr92AodFHbiWQ

or anywhere and don't wear them day after day. And don't get a solid black suit it will look shabby before anything else. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

You managed to get a suit that actually fitted from TKMaxx??? Amazing!
I would recommend M&S or Suits You, particularly if you've got a Suits You Outlet Store near you - same stock as their normal shps, only cheaper!
I've had good wear out of M&S suits (even their washable and dryable wool ones) and the Ted Baker and Cerruti ones from Suits You have done several laps of the dry cleaners and still look brand new.
My washable M&S ones have been thrashed to death. Daily use with 2 pairs of trousers and 1 jacket and they easily last a year, with weekly washing machine visit.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Just a few weeks ago in the Outlet Centre in Swindon (The Great Western outlet Centre) DH found a beautiful suit in Aquascutum which should have been a sniff under £500 - it was reduced to £150. Also, only last week we went back and went round the Jaeger sale; again, he found a beautiful suit for £100 that would have been £400 full price. Both of those are cheaper than M&S!
However, he was a bit aggrieved that a Daniel Hechter suit he bought at House of Fraser at almost full price (about £350) barely lasted him a year; the trousers wore right through on the bottom. He was alternating with another suit & also Friday dress-down.
My advice is; buy wherever you see jackets & trousers being sold seperately. Buy a jacket & at least two pairs of trousers - they will always wear out way before the jacket. Have them dry cleaned regularly, it does prolong the life of the suit.0 -
I got mine from suits plus, wasnt too bad for cost,0

Skopes do some nice styles, in the past have lasted me a long time, even alternating between just two 5 days a week, lasting well into 2 years. Regular dry cleaning and general taking care was about all i did.0

Guys,
Suitsyou has a 75% off everything sale today if there is one near you.
I picked up 2 Ben Sherman Wool suits for 68.25 and 37.25 respectivley reduced from £200 each.
They may not be everyones cup of tea or be deemed as good suits but they definetley are bargains.
All shirts, ties, cufflinks and shoes are also 75% off.0 -
I get all my suits from Topman. They're pretty cheap and are pretty robust! Great for slimmer guys too as they often do smaller fits.0

I have a range of suits and spend between £200 - £600 on each.
For value for money you have to go a long way to beat Marks and Spencer (make sure you go for their top range only).
If you are wearing suits often then I would suggest a minumum of three suits.
Mayflower is dead right about getting extra trousers!0 -

I'm female, but I buy my work suits from Jaeger (only in the sales!) Outlet stores or On-line sales.
My last suit cost about £150 from the outlet in Swindon, but should have originally cost over £400. I like the fact that the trousers in the suits I have bought from them are lined, which makes them much more comfortable to wear. Not sure if blokes trousers come with the option of being lined.?
My suits take quite a bashing, I tend to chuck the jackets in the car or the boot, not great at hanging clothes up etc., But they seem to stay looking nice and smart.
But I agree with the multiple suits comment. However, I often find I don't wear most of them, which is not very mse at all.
