Your fridge freezer!! ;D ;D
We have been told that the compressor has gone in our fridge freezer and it will cost £200 to get it fixed - may as well put this towards a new one......
Only problem is that we haven't got that sort of cash to spend at the moment and wondered if we could 'accidentally damage' it and claim on the insurance - wicked I know - te he he!! ;D ;D
Any ideas welcome......

What you are suggesting littlemisstrouble sounds a tad illegal to me.
Insurance companies can and do take people to court for fraudulent claims......and they do check these things.
Of course you might get away with it, but I personally wouldn't be prepared to take the risk.

Pink-winged is spot on........it's illegal. :-/
And not worth the risk.............IMO0 -
Ohh little Miss Trouble please don't live up to your name ;D
As well as being a tad on the illegal side, you may want to check your policy documents. I foolishly was defrosting my freezer with a knife (I know . . . I know . . . . patience is not my middle name) and stabbed the side wall whilst trying to get rid of a particularly stubbon bit of ice! (little miss clumsy being my real middle name!).
Anyway, to cut a long story short, although I pay for accidental damage as part of my policy, this does not count as accidental damage and personal damage is specifically excluded on my policy. So I was only able to claim for the food . . . . . which I didn't bother with as I had to provide receipts (??? How I do not know, some of the stuff in there was months old) and wrappings of the food to claim, which I had of course thrown away as I did this at the weekend and wasn't going to go fishing through the wheelie bin! 2 day old defrosted smoked salmon, no thank you!!!
Sorry to be a bit of a bearer of bad knews, but wouldn't want you to "have an accident ::)" and then find out that you should just have got it repaired because you're not covered!
Best of luck with your decision
PS it's really nice to be able to help someone (if this is helping) rather than just ask questions. Made me feel more worthwhile on the site now. Everyone else seems to know so much more than me!No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Especially from you, MA, can't believe they wanted receipts! Who keeps there food receipts especially when you are talking about frozen food.
Oh well, better get saving those pennies - anyone got any good ideas!! he he

If you are on benefits you can get one for £75 through Currys I think. Should be a thread somewhere.............0

The thread relating to the discount fridges and fridge freezers for people claiming benefits is:

Hope this helps.0 -
Thanks Jo, I went to find it and had a senior moment when I forgot what I went to find.....0

Thanks little miss naughty. Have you tried your local paper in the classifieds? Every week in mine, someone seems to be selling one, described as almost new condition for between £40 and £75. Worth a thought whilst you save for the all singing and dancing version maybe. No reliance should be placed on the above.0
