A cheap, adjustable dressmakers / tailors dummy?

I promised my niece one for her birthday without a clue of how much they are. She has told all the friends that she is now having one and I now feel like a prize prat!!

Can anyone help me. I will not be making that rookie error again!

I've been looking for ages on ebay and they are so expensive. There is a way of making one using duct tape and an old T-shirt. Perhaps you can explain to her that you didn't realise but that this method would give her exact body size and shape. You could have a girly evening together with drinks and nibbles and make it with her, and get her maybe some fabric and patterns instead?

You could try ebay. Look under tailor's dummy; dressmakers' dummy; dress form; mannequin etc. Some are very expensive but you might get lucky. Sorry can't be of more help.

I just bid on 2 and lost them at the last second.

I'm looking for no more than £70, but just went up to £75. So frustrated, lost them by£1 in the last moment.

She's only 12 and my angel and I feel so bad now.

Have you tried on freecycle? I've seen a few on there for my local area. I have also seen on at a cheapie store called QV - not sure if they are just local store or a chain...

Ooh - may have found one on ebay.

Will have another look in the morning (my eyes are going a little squiffy from the searching, and ok -maybe the wine :-) )

Does it have to be adjustable? Does she actually make her own clothes? I only ask because it seems that mannequins/dummys are the 'in thing' for teens to decorate their bedrooms and drape clothes and scarves over them. And those types of dummies are available on amazon.co.uk for £45 - £70. There's a surprisingly large selection:

Yeah, she is a budding dressmaker. She is really good at designing clothes and want't to move on to the next step.

She's always saying that she won't pay a fortune on clothes as she will just make them herself!! LOL, she's already a money conscious madam!
