Big fan of househusbands - I am rubbish at shopping, but since hub at home
    1. basics from ALDI - has saved us about half of our budget ... including clothes washing liquid and softener that is fine for our ecxema plagued daughter and son with asthma.
    2. cook from scratch - cheap pasta or rice with veg ... tasty, filling, good for kids AND chuck in your chorizo and chicken et all from aldi .... better than the best restaurant - my little girl had 3 helpings tonight!
    3. Take a look at what's left halfway thro week and just buy one or two little extras to turn it into a meal
    4. I'm a rubbish cook and work 12 hours a day with long drives from ncle to wales ... but even i can get a soup together with peas and creme fraiche or veg in the slo-cooker.
    5. buy plain anti-bac spray cleaner - does everything from hob to window
ledges to bath ... use old newspapers to clean or at least get cheapest kitchen towel / toilet roll from aldi or netto
    6. wine is cheap at netto and aldi - treat yourself.
    7. don't get sky - use your wii if you have one to take advantantage of internet and iplayer on your telly - better access to entertainment than using blockbuster
    8. Garden: - according to my aching muscles, it does the same job as the gym. is more pleasant, more sociable if you do it together, costs less ... and there's a fantastic end result that you, your friends and family and your other half can enjoy - again for free!!!
    9. clean, clear, decorate - sell anything you don't want on ebay .. then use the money you get paid for a treat so you still feel you're getting something out of all this austerity.
    10. Enjoy - frugality is fun
