I have been making payments for my children to the CSA for the past ten years....my daughter's nineteenth birthday was last week...is there some sort of finalisation documentation to fill in?...do they contact you?,as i have no home of my own...i do not pay rent, council tax or amenity bill's....i'm not on the electoral roll either...i have relied on close friends & my parents for a place to stay if i needed it....yes,i'm very very lucky to have had so much support.....this past week for some unknown reason a member of the CSA phoned my parents who are both pensioners asking for my fathers date of birth....as i have never told them any details about my parents (phone No. & address) i am guessing that my x wife has given the CSA those details....even though i specifically wrote to them a long time ago telling them to contact me at my employers address...i'm rather anxious about this contact....as i do not like talking to them over the phone.....should i write to them asking them when my final payment is due?,i would appreciate any one's advice,TIA.

Should be over now i'd call them them first then get them to follow it up in writing to your parents or works address (explain your circumstances)

To be honest i would rather not call them......the least i have to do with them the better and i would feel a lot better having something in black & white than a garbled explanation over a phone line that will probably end up being the wrong information.
I will probably write to them over the weekend....and send the letter by recorded delivery.....i was wondering if there was any further questioning or should that be the end of the matter?.

PS.I just received a phone call telling me my case was closed...they also said that they would look at my case again to see if there are any arrears? what does that mean exactly?

Arrears will have accrued from any point whilst your CSA account has been running for the past 10 years that the full payment requested by the CSA has not been made.

Normally, you should receive statements from the CSA every 6 months & your latest one should reveal whether any arrears are payable.

Would you not think that arrears should be dealt with soon as rather than wait till the case has been closed and then hit someone with arrears that they may not even know they have accrued, as we all know the csa are known for getting things wrong, it would mean for any NRP to keep every record of payments, dates of anytime unemployed and re-employed.

The csa should alert any NRP of any arrears as they are happening not when a case is closed.

For us the process will be to breathe a huge sigh of relief!!! (But that's a long time in the future!!)
  • My main worry is the discovery that i was supposed to tell them if my salary was increased....the last assesment was five years ago...in the meantime i have had increases in my salary, obviously that should be a two way thing so my ex partner & her new partner would have been in exactly the same position and as i have not heard anything then i'm presuming they didn't tell the CSA of any change in their salary circumstances either...i have breathed a sigh of relief 13Kent but being honest i lost far more than money these past ten years...i'm now trying to think how i can rebuild my relationship with my children and return to a normal existance...which i think is going to be very very difficult on both counts.

Am not 100% sure but i think if your ex was to ask for a re-assessment then they can back date any increase of salary that you have not disclosed, hopefully someone with better knowledge will come on to answer your question.

You are NOT obliged to inform the CSA of any salary increase / decrease unless they contact you & request this information.

Therefore, any reassessment / revision of your CSA account is only backdated to the date that the PWC / NRP requested it or the CSA instigated it. Arrears will only accrue from this date & not before.

In fact, the only information that you are obliged to inform the CSA of are a change of address and / or a change of employer if you are paying by DEO.

  • That's very reassuring, thank you Donedoingdebt,i could not find any information on the CSA website regarding the final payments...which i guess i really shouldn't be surprised about....i'm presuming i will make at least one more payment in September as i believe the CSA take payments monthly in arrears....so i shall await the next letter....i checked my last statement and i owed zero, since then the payments have been up to date so it will come as a surprise to say the least if it's suddenly in significant arrears.
Thank you all once more, i pray that soon you will all be out of their clutches and be able to return to a normal life.
  • Well...for some reason or other they are still trying to talk to me by phoning my parents home number........obviously they must be very desperate to talk to me...but can't be bothered to write to the address they have on file...i believe my father gave them a little bit of ear ache over the phone...and asked them where they got his phone number from to which the reply was the usual.... cannot divulge that state secret...LOL's....that was the point my father told them to take a running jump and put the phone down....Hah!,almost eighty but dont mess with the old man....his house...his phone....get lost.
