What to put in an email

I'm applying for a couple of jobs which want me to send my CV via email, what do I put in the email, so far all I've got is:

Please find attached my CV for your consideration for the role of ........

    Have you started it by saying Hi *insert person name"

    You could if you wanted put a few good reasons why you are suited to the job ie like a mini cover letter

    May be an idea to put your contact details at the bottom of the email :) Mobile/home number and email

    However its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:

    I haven't got a name to address my email to, just 'recruitment contact' which is someone in HR I'm assuming.

    Thanks for the ideas on the mini cover letter, I'll have to look at those again, I find them really hard to write for some reason.
  • You could always try phoning the company and asking a bit more about the position.

    Then when it comes to sending the email, just add something like, after a brief telephone conversation with so and so regarding postion x, please find attached my cv etc etc.

    Don't waste your time sending unsolicited e-mails looking for jobs HR will normally put them straight in the bin.

    If it is an address inviting you to send you CV then go for it try and relate your cover e-mail back to the company, do your research.

    e.g.

    I am particularly intterested in working for x as from your website I see many of your projects involve y this is an area I am particularly interested in.

    P.S. don't copy my spelling :-)

    The jobs I'm contacting are advertising on websites, so often there is no telephone number or name unfortunately, but thanks for the advice, its really useful as I'm used to filling in applications or getting jobs pretty much by word of mouth.
  • If there's no name then start with Dear Sir/Madam and end with yours faithfully. I think using the formal adress looks more professional.

    Absolutely. Do not start an email with 'Hi' if you wish to appear professional and employable.

    Think about what you'd put in a letter, and use the same format.

    Putting contact details like phone numbers in is a good idea, IMO.

    Also make sure your email address is not childish or jokey. CuddlyBunny is fine for a rabbit or a 9 year old girl, but I wouldn't want to employ one.

    DS2 had a warped name for a while. Again, fine for an angst ridden teenage boy, not so great if you'd like to be employed. He now uses his name.

    In this case your email is your covering letter! So attache your CV to the email but do whatever you do in your usual cover letter in the email.

    Some basic tips:

    1. Be proffessional so stick to the cover letter formallity, if you dont know the name then go for sir / madam

    2. Get a new email adress if yours is a little silly. Just get a gmail one with your first and second name if required.

    3. Spell check the email and make sure you attache the CV before sending. I know I forget to attach items on a regular basis and often get a response of Attached? Not good if thats your first impression!

    4. Google the company and get enough info and be as specific as why you want the job / why you are suited.

    5. good luck! N ont copy any of my spelling or grammar as i always get somebody to proof read my dreadful english!
