 SO yes im only 21, have my two beautiful children, and have debts of just under 10,000 pound. Was doing fine with paying things but now have no job which is not good when trying to pay that much at the same time.
Credit cards only being able to afford to pay the minimum so not actually paying more then a few pounds a month on them after the interest. Killing us financially, some weeks not even having enough left to get shopping in, does anybody have any suggestions to help at all?:(

Hi a0156rp and welcome to the forum,
Before you do anything else, you should post your Statement of Affairs for forum users to give you help/advice on how to save money of bills etc. Follow the link below
http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
Depending on how badly you are struggling with the payments, you may wish to consider contacting the consumer credit counselling service, payplan or citizens advice to discuss your options further, but as I said, fill out the SOA and we'll take it from there. If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

If you haven't got a job then you need to make sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to.
If you are living solely on benefits then this is the minimum the governement expects you to live on so you will have not much left (if any for debt repayments). Priorities are keeping a roof over your head, council tax, water, gas/electric, buying food etc and any secured debts - everything else will have to accept a token payment of 1 pound per month until things improve. Write to them, explain you are out of work and have 2 children to look after, enclose yoru budget sheet and send them each 1 pound per month. They won't like it but they can't have what you haven't got.
The debt charities can help you with this and there are letters on the National Debtline's website I believe.
If this is likely to be a permanent thing - ie you can't work 'cos you can't afford childcare etc then the debt charities can help you arrange more permanent solutions if needs be.

Hey thanks for your replies, after i went back to work after my maternity i learned they were letting people go, and considering i had been off work unfortunately i was one of those people. Hopefully not a permanent thing, my partner has problems in getting work due to his criminal record from when he was 15 (now 28) still suffering from it. Yes i think knowing exactly how much i owe altogether rather then rounding it to the nearest thousand would be a better idea to understand.
Ill take it from there. Thanks Rachel. xx:eek: So i need to find just under 10.000 pound to pay off my debts..... its not that much..... right ???? :rotfl:

is he obliged to declare that? might be worth taking advice depending on their field of employment and seriousness of the crime.
Yes on all applications that he fills in it states to declare all of his criminal record. Although he hasnt been in trouble since, except speeding fine. He has still got to declare all. I dont find it fair that they can still judge him this far down, so he has all qualifications and little he can do with them! So i need to find just under 10.000 pound to pay off my debts..... its not that much..... right ???? :rotfl:

Seems rather unfair, we can all do silly things when we are young, but he has no doubt learnt from that and wants to make his contribution to society. Good luck xx0

hey there.
I just wanted to say that alot of the declaration of criminal offences would depend on the nature of the crime versus the job applied for. so, purely for example and not taking any guesses at all, if the conviction was for fraud and you wanted to work in a bank, then the offence would have to be declared whether or not it was deemed "spent" under the rehabilitation of offenders act.
Further, it is worth looking at the above act. depending on the nature of the offence it may well fall under a "spent" conviction and therefore although the cheeky swines may so "all convictions" it may not necessarily be a lawful request.
Hope that helps and stick up that SOA. i'm certain we can help you make some savings and get life a little easier.
hugs to you

Yes on all applications that he fills in it states to declare all of his criminal record.
Every job application I have filled in has asked me to declare all convictions, but then states that the request is subject to the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
That pretty much states that after a period of time, convictions are considered "spent" and don't need to be declared for job purposes even if they ask.
There are only certain circumstances where you MUST declare spent convictions.
Maybe worth looking into?0 -

I would check about declaring his criminal record as my husband was also in a similar position a number of years ago, he got into trouble when he was about 16 due to not coping with his parents divorce, he was advised that after 6 years he would no longer need to declare his criminal record.
He had to be CRB checked about 5 years ago when he took his exams for his BIIAB personal licence and that came back clear.
Not sure what your partners record is for but my DH crashed a car with no licence, insurance, tax, mot etc and did 3 months inside and was then released on tag (prison really scared him into sorting himself out)0 -
Indeed, on a CRB there's only certain professions that will show up ALL convictions. These mainly being people that work with the vulnerable like doctors, teachers etc. Most other jobs where they ask for your convictions, even if they did a CRB check, they'd only see any unspent convictions on the report.Sealed Pot Challenge #239
