MSE way to do a signing frame, please?

3 weeks to go and I've decided I'd like to get a signing frame. OH had a guest book at his previous wedding so we wanted something a bit different.

I like this:

http://www.thehandcraftedcardcompany.co.uk/craft/106-signing-frames.asp

But I can't justify stretching to £50+

I've tried to find a mount and frame seperately, but can't get mounts and frames the right correlating size (or at least, when I have they are from 2 different sites so buy the time I've brought mount + frame + 2xP&P it's almost £50 anyway).

There are a few out there cheaper (seen one for £20 odd) but it has a cheesy label thing on the mount saying "wedding" or "perfect day" and I really just want the mount to be totally plain.

Anyone?

Why dont you just buy a frame from range or B&M bargins or somewhere like that them just use a large sheet of white card for the mount and cut a hole in the middle for your pic or even just stick your pic on in the middle

Thats what i am planning on doing anyway x

even cheaper way, find a frame at a carboot - it may have some dodgy old painting in it, take it out, go to the range or similar and get the mount for people to sign, and hey presto - should cost under a tenner!

Try your local framers and see the best price they can do for you?

If you don't feel comfortable cutting the mounting card yourself (craft scalpel and metal ruler) a framers should also be able to cut a mount and aperture to size for you to fit any frame you like. A compromise on the price!

By the way I think that's a really great idea I hadn't come across before so I think I may have to make myself one too!
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • I went to a framers to get this today, the mount was £6 and the frame was £24, but I had a massssive frame, a "normal" sized one would have been £15.99. If you wanted to try them that was http://www.zanart.co.uk/customframer.php if you are local they have shops in Kettering and Bedford or if you're not local their online shop is http://www.ezeframe.co.uk/index.php and I think it might be a bit cheaper, their delivery is £5.95 so will definately come in under your £50 above.

  • I got a signing frame for my cousins wedding last year. I went along to my local framers (which is in a market) and told the guy what I was after, space for a 10x8 photo with a really broad white mount all the way round, a picked the type of frame I wanted (he had dozens of types to choose from) Went back an hour later and he had knocked it together with glass in the front, board in the back and the hooks and thread for hanging. It cost me £20. I think it was the most appreciated wedding present I have ever given! All the guests signed it on the day and afterwards I offered to pay for an enlargement of their favourite photo to go in the middle.
