How long before im "clean"?

ok i went a bit hectic in my first year of uni and managed to grab 4 student accounts with the idea of pooling the OD's into a saving account. Also had 3 credit cards with balances of about a grand on each. Today I'm down to 1 credit card but still have the student accounts which I'm paying off voluntarily by standing order (the banks haven't recalled any of it so I'm not forced to pay it off just yet). I thought my finances were therefore on track but today managed to fail a credit check with Vodafone even though I am already a customer of theirs with a contract which was applied for when I still had 3 credit cards, so if anything I am in a better position now. I've checked equifax and cannot find anything too detrimental, apart from the high OD allowances, awaiting experian as its them that VF use. Has my reducing my available credit made me a bad choice for VF?

The problem is likely your income versus debt already to your name (even if it's all well managed) puts you at a risk for obtaining any more. As your balances go down but available credit remains up, you will improve. The other thing to watch is searches - having too many makes you look desperate ;)
