Important Product Recall - Simple Nourishing Body Wash

This is the only Simple product involved.

Simple Health and Beauty Ltd has discovered a number of batches of Simple Nourishing Body Wash 250ml have a quality issue.

We have temporarily stopped selling this product and are asking consumers not to use it. If you are in possession of the product, please return it to the store location where purchased for a full refund. If you know someone else who has this product, please ask them to return it as well.
Alternatively, please contact Simple at 0800 023 2960 for product disposal advice, reimbursement or any further questions. This line is open from 8am until 8pm.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused. All necessary action is being taken to eliminate the problem and to restore supplies of this very popular product.

I was unlucky enough to have two bottles of this, used one and realised it was a bit soapy - as my husband did a flying leap when he got in the shower.. So checked it out, asked Simple for a return bag and then just phoned to ask what was actually wrong with it and if it was harmful as first bottle had been used on my baby daughter. Got a most unhelpful lady on the other end who just reiterated that it's unlikely to be harmful. But wouldn't elaborate. So it is a leaky bottle issue or chemically inbalanced Simple? What is the reason for a mass recall please?

Thank you for your comments regarding Simple Kind To Skin Nourishing Body Wash.

We took the decision to recall your product when we found a number of batches with quality issues. Quality issues, you ask! Well don’t panic. What we found was the presence of a common bacteria in some bottles, resulting in the product becoming bloated over time. Our decision to recall was simply a precautionary one. The risks associated with the presence of the bacteria are extremely low for the vast majority of our customers. But we refuse to take any risks with your safety - it’s the primary concern of everyone at Simple Health Beauty Limited.

So, following the advice of both internal & external experts, and in liaison with the Trading Standards Authority, we decided that the recall was the most appropriate course of action for an ethical & caring company.

It is extremely unlikely that this product represents any risk to you or any members of your family, including young children.

Naturally, Simple and our manufacturer are taking the necessary steps to prevent this happening again. An improved version of this very popular product will be made available for sale shortly.

Simple Nourishing Body Wash 250ml – PRODUCT RELAUNCH

Following the recent product recall of Simple’s highly popular 250ml Nourishing Body Wash (6.08.2010), we are pleased to announce a phased re-launch in selected retail outlets – Tesco, Sainsburys and ASDA – with immediate effect. A further update on release dates for other retailers will follow.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding while we have been resolving the quality issues. We know how important Nourishing Body Wash is to many of our customers and we are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

I took one back to my local Tesco. The lady on the CS desk knew nothing about this but gave me a refund anyway. She wasn't at all interested in finding out about the recall!

So how do we know which batches are the ones that were recalled?
As it happens I bought 2 yesterday from poundland.

So do I just take them all back or is there a way to check which ones are OK?

I'm sure it must be easier to take it back to the store (as said in the OP + press release)

I had one in the cupboard from a Tesco online shop a few months ago - had a look through the orders to see which it was on (BOGOF) and got a full price refund by just sending Tesco an email. Minimal effort required - they don't even need it back, just said to throw it away as it was a recall product.
