Wife had her 6 month review on her DMP today and everything is running smoothly all payments made since January and all interest/c harges frozen.Debt is small £900+ £300+ £100+ all to the same original creditor.

The DMP lady said the original creditor wanted wifes driving license or passport to verify who she is,well after 6 months i find his strange as she answered all the other details to the DMP and it was the DMP who phoned the wife.

Any ideas why or are they after her signature for some reason ?

ps the original creditors send her a credit account statement every month so they must know who she is by now.

I would tell the DMP people that the creditor should make a direct request in writing. You might learn some more about ti that way.

you are not oblidged to supply anything like this

This is against the Debt Collection Guidance as set down by the Office of Fair Trading and the relevant section is below.

    Deceptive and/or unfair methods

2.7 Dealings with debtors are not to be deceitful and/or unfair.

2.8 Examples of unfair practices are as follows:

    j. requiring an individual to supply information to prove they are not the debtor in question, for example, driving licences, passports, full name, date of birth, signatures

I am not saying this happens - but there may not be a signed credit -agreement and if you supply a document with a signature it may end up on it.

  • Thank you DVS and AGB for your replies.

My thinking was the same as yours AGB re the credit agreement.

I will tell wife to make request in writing and also will tell DMP about above relevant section and see what they say.

    Thank you both very much.

They also said its ok to just send a utility bill now :j
