Then you only put half the answer!:rotfl:

But both my answers are correct - you only chose one of them!!!

Cleave means to split apart and to stick fast to!

In other words, CLEAVE is an antonym of itself!

I'm 31 and would have assumed everyone knows what it means.
I'm 26, and would have thought so too!

    spendthrift

    thrifty spender

completely different meanings, but honestly, if you don't know these turns of phrase, I would hope it's because English isn't your first language

Is the opposite of a spendthrift a skinflint or a miser?

I'm really surprised at this. I knew what it meant, and thought most people would have too.

I agree, but don't forget the poll was carried out amongst Facebook users! :)

Are you new here? You are grotesquely misjudging the distance between the gutter and the minds of this site's members.

They were discussing 'lollicams' in my local papers last week - it is very important, if researching on the web, to do make sure you include a double 'l' when googling that term.
  • I like debt-junkie for someone hooked on debt or landfiller for someone who buys lots of 'stuff'.

I'd like to open a seaside shop called 'Landfill'.
