Made a decision

Right today i am going to take back everything i have bought in the last 28 days not used/worn.

I am coming to terms i am a compulsive spender (Makes me happy feeling) i am going to try reverse psycology on myself here and take back these things.

I also used to be a comfort eater and i have managed to lose over 4stone in the last year so if i can do that i can do this.

The next thing will be cut down the fags i am going to stop smoking in my car ( i am a rep and spend lots of time in the car so smoke more than i need throught just habit) I will start taking just a few cigarettes each day with me and no money.

Also i am going to make coffee in a flask that will stop the £2 or £3 on coffee i have got used to having over lunch.

This has got to make a difference. I am going to put the money in a tin each day and watch it mount up.

I am only going to shop in my cupboards now.

There we go wish me luck.

Well done, good start;) especially the weight loss (I know how hard that is!!!!!) and good luck on the smoking - I know how hard that is as well (and I failed dismally:o) Do you take a packed lunch? That'll save a couple of quid as well. If you're on the road a lot, pick a nice spot to have your lunch, take a book with you, so you are not tempted to go around the shops!!! Good luck:)

    Hi Overspender.

Firstly, well done on losing 4 stone, that is a major achievement!.

I can fully understand where you're coming from with the shopping, i'm a bit of a spendaholic myself. I am also a hoarder, the amount of clothes etc i have is ridiculous, not to mention household gadgets. I am not as bad as i used to be though, i dont have a spare washing machine anymore!.

Taking a flask is a great idea as those coffees do add up. Also, only taking so many cigarettes should help, as long as you aren't then able to buy more. It's easy i guess to just light up when in the car alone, it can be very boring. Have you any CD's that might help?. It's very difficult as you dont want to be too distracted by anything.

The money will soon mount up.. dont be tempted to spend it!.

Have you worked out exactly why you overspend?.. the reason that shopping gives you the buzz that nothing else does?. Finding the cause is as important, if not more so, than treating the symptom.

I can't really offer any advice but wanted to wish you lots of luck!. Let us know how you get on.

  • Well today i took back £62.00 worth of clothes i don't need.:T

Nicely back into my bank account within the next couple of days. This should cover my MOT on friday (hopefully) i have already had the brake pads and tyres changed this year.

I am going to spend the weekend looking for things i can sell on Ebay. I have some dressesleft from before my weight loss that are quite expensive (monsoon/coast) i might get a few quid for them rather than sending a bag to the charity shop. I am afraid from now on charity begins at home.
