old debt..???

help needed..and fast please..!!!.
i have recd a letter from a debt recovery agency with regards to an outstanding debt of £1700.00 approx from over six years ago (i think this relates to a debt which has been sold onto them from a high street bank).
i had financial difficulties over six years ago when i was self employed and was forced to fold my business.
the first letter advises i will be contacted by doorstep recovery to discuss repayment however they will accept £990 as full and final settlement if recd by them before 14/09. the second letter dated 15/09 advises this has now been passed to debt counselling and i should get in touch with them to discuss a repayment plan, however failure to do so will result in my account being referred to debt enforcement team.
are they legally entitled to pursue this debt after so long

  • It's a tricky one, did you move house and not tell them? have you had any other letters in the last few years from them or the original creditor?

  • stuck my head in the sand..then moved...only because ex wife kicked me out...she didnt forward anything...thanks
  • If you moved without telling them then it’s going to be very hard to go down the statute of limitations act route. I suggest you call them and get some payment plan in place, I recently was tracked down by an old debt for £1800 and they are letting me repay it at £52 a month :)

if you actually owe the money you may feel that you should pay it.

if you have had no contact for six years the statute of limitations means the debt is not enforeable so you dont actaully need to pay it.
